2 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Bought a total of 2 during a span of 35 days... today marks 6 months since buying the first one and it no longer works... my LiteOn units at least lasted a couple of years... only the second one I bought is working... I hardly used them... ..

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as designed

Pros: I've had no issue with the drive.

Cons: It feels a bit cheap in construction, but for the cost; who am I to complain?

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I've always had good experiences with ASUS optical drives.
The value proposition is great, given that the drive works perfectly for casual users of optical drives - which is almost everyone these days.

Cons: Not the best choice if you plan on using a DVD drive to do more than OS/software/driver installations. For example, if you plan on burning thousands of DVDs or putting a drive in an HTPC to watch movies, do yourself a favor and buy a higher-end drive built for your purposes. Such power users and specific-application users should read professional reviews and talk to knowledgeable people before buying.

Other Thoughts: If all you want to do is have a drive for installations and the occasional DVD burning or movie viewing, this one fits the bill nicely.

4 out of 5 eggsFunctional & Noisy

Pros: Easy to install. Loads CD's and DVD's relatively quickly.

Cons: Upon Powering On the PC, this Optical Drive is noisy as it begins to initialize; it's almost just as noisy when you first insert a disk.

Other Thoughts: I presume that due to the "energy efficiency" of this optical drive, something had to be sacrificed, and that something must be the noisy drive's initialization, and loading of disks. For the price though, it can't be beat.
