Pros: It's just what I was hoping it would be. I bought this for my nephew because his laptop doesn't have a cd/dvd player/writer in it and just got it in today and opened it up and tested it before I ship it to him. I'm impressed with it's size and design, and it works really well. But a heads up, it has 2 usb plugs on it and both had to be plugged in for it to work properly, so if you have a lap top that doesn't have 2 usb ports close together, this may not be the one for you, or I think that maybe you can buy an extension for the other usb plug.

Cons: the only thing that would be a problem would be the short 2nd usb cable which would be a problem if you don't have 2 ports close together on your laptop

Pros: Worked right out of the box, no need to install any software to use it. Connected it into to a USB port and it was immediately recognized as a DVD/CD device on my computer that has Win8.1 OS.

The provided cable is plenty long enough. Looks and feels like a high quality device. The retail packaging that it comes with is sturdy and can be used to store the unit when it isn't being used.

Eliminates the need for having a DVD/CD device permanently installed n a computer case that rarely gets used and allows for using smaller cases. Easily transported and stored.

Cons: Seemed a little slow but as it is uses the USB 2.0 interface, that was expected.

Other Thoughts: Would have preferred a USB 3.0 interface external DVD/CD for the higher speed but cost was prohibitive ( about 4X higher).

Pros: Cracked this open, ignored the directions. Hooked it up to a new iMac with the included USB cable, popped the drawer button and dropped in a Win 7 DVD, closed the drawer and fired up Parallels to install a Win 7 VM. It worked flawlessly. In other words it reminds me a lot of what America used to be. Been a while since I bought any piece of tech equipment that didn't involve a hassle and if there is an expert in this area I am it. 30+ years in Wintel from the screen to the metal as a user and developer, I've seen and done it all and I know when I see quality.

Cons: none. none whatsoever. Jaw dropping in fact.

Other Thoughts: The best programs and the best hardware devices have a quality of invisibility. You don't think about them. They just work. This qualifies.

Pros: We recently purchased 3. It is getting harder to find DVD burners on laptops, and even docking stations are starting to come without a DVD burner.

They are quite compact, and seem fairly rugged for what they are.

We have not used them much. We really just need them around for those occasions when a DVD Reader/Writer is needed. However, the one I tested worked fine.

Cons: I need a minimum of 5 words here.

Other Thoughts: Unless we become aware of quality issues, we will continue to buy this brand as needed.
