3 out of 5 eggsIt's HUGE! Ginormous! It Won't play many Blu Ray Discs!

Pros: Works well so far though I have yet to burn Blu Ray and have yet to really give it a substantial workout.
- It's very quiet as well
- USB 3.0 transfer speeds.
- No coasters yet
- Looks snazzy. All my recent ASUS gear gets design kudos.

[Edit 1/17/16] Has been, so far, a reliable burner with no coasters including with 25G, 50G, and also re-recordable discs with Verbatim media though I have had some difficulty with non-branded media.

Cons: [Edit 1/17/2/16] This will not play Netflix Blu Ray discs half the discs when a standalone player will play them fine. It keeps resetting and often needs a disconnect and/or paper clip eject. Likely it needs a firmware update - but research shows none is available. Forums indicate the internal drive has never been a good candidate for Blu Ray Video Disc playback. So I'm dinging it yet another bink to 3.

It is HUGE. It's Ginormous. It's certainly not a "to go" drive to pack with your laptop. It's a desktop accessory for sure.

The rear power switch, as others have noted, is difficult to use without hooking with your fingernail. Mine will see the dremel to make it more like a rectangular tab that's easy to actuate.

The open/close corner panel is also difficult to use without interfering with opening and closing the drive.

Other Thoughts: I'm not using their LE drive software so can't comment on that. I'm just using the Cyberlink that came with my laptop.

I bought this so I would not wear out my laptop drive. I've found heavy use of laptop drives for playback and burning to wear them out. So this is my desk accessory I use when not traveling or mobile.

[Edit 1/17/2/16] Blu Ray media is particularly sensitive to quality. After some trouble with un-branded or non Matsushita media I now only buy Verbatim media and generally also their mid if not high level.

I have had reasonable luck (no negatives but no depth of experience) using re-recordable media with this drive burning and others playing it. It's certainly not recommended for archival - but is very handy for shorter term use of a disc for a vacation or loan or such.

Do note that WOTS is if you're OURchiving movies that Cinavia protection may cause playback issues, esp on standalone players, that may appear to be a bad disc and not a fault of the media or burner.

3 out of 5 eggsHidden Power ON / OFF swtich

Pros: works wells - it was hard to find a BD external at a reasonable price - like it

Cons: The dumbest instruction manual ever - it is written 35 languages ( hahaha ) - but it never mentions there a power button above the power plug - I plugged the drive in and could not figure why it was not powering on - tested the adapter etc. I was frustrated since I never had a DOA from ASUS yet - I was actually thinking of returning the drive a DOA until I notice the diamond switch like button beside the power plug - presto - in very small letters you can see the indentation of on/off - all I can say is that cool design are nice but please make the power buttons standard

4 out of 5 eggsDesigned for looks, not function.

Pros: Pretty, works, good price after discount, and MIR.

Cons: The power switch is almost impossible to operate. It's slippery plastic, and almost flat. Even now that I've worked it a few times, I still can't turn it on, without hooking my fingernail under the edge. This is a crazy stupid design (but it looks good). When I first got it, I thought is was DOA, it took me 30 minutes to figure out how to turn it on. And, the instructions don't include turning on the power switch. I was in the process of emailing customer service to ask if there was a trick to the power switch, when I inadvertently gained enough grip to move the switch.

Other Thoughts: Glad I didn't buy their motherboard

4 out of 5 eggsGlobal Warming Model

Pros: Installation was simply a matter of plugging it in and waiting for Windows 7 to find the driver out on the network.

So far, it works perfectly, no problems.

It's a USB3 device, but I've got it plugged into a USB2 port, still works just fine but I'm burning discs at 4x instead of 6x to avoid any buffer problems, though I think it actually would work okay at 6x.

Cons: Gets VERY hot when burning a disc. When the disc tray opens, the smell of burning-hot plastic fills the air. Kinda scary, but I've burned about 30 discs so far with no problems.

The on-off switch on the back is lame; hard to use at best.

The "on" indicator is HUGE and is thus way too bright.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this drive with the inexpensive (but very good quality) PlexDisc brand of blank Blu-Ray discs. No problems, not a single coaster so far.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Burner

Pros: 2ND Review had for about 5 months. Burner is Great. software that is package with it is useless.
Great Burner for DVD, CD , BDR & BDRE
works on Linux using KB3

Cons: Software is Power2Go LE would not work with higher screen resolutions at all. Constant nag screens even if you are performing functions enabled with LE version. Many of those functions don't work well. Use another package such as Ashampoo Studio 2013 which is free.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive, classy style.

Pros: what's not to love? amazing drive. works great in Linux. Sabayon/Gentoo KDE user.
I needed this for my custom mini ITX steam machine.

Cons: little on the bulky side, but not a real problem.
USB3 cables are always shorter than I'd like. But this is the case on all USB 3 cables lately.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: burned my first blu-ray using this drive.
Love it.
Drive is cool looing to.

Cons: the switch on the back of this is bad design. Just leave it on.

Other Thoughts: If you want to burn BD-Video, you will need some more powerful software. I downloaded the Cyberlink software and it works well.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Performance

Pros: Writes above 6x for most BD, Still operates at 2X for BD-RE disk. Works better under Linux using KB3, KB3 has no problems with any functions using BD and BD-RE. Have not used any DL disk and probable will not unless they are rewritable. (all rewritable operate at 2X)

Cons: The Power is switch is operable with practice, Hoever the eject button is not usable with you index finger, drive ejects hit finger and re-closes. Most of the time I have to use a wooden tongue depressor trimmed for the purpose. Come on Asus , How can you design something this badly!
1 egg off!!!

Other Thoughts: I don,t use this that often, but the eject button is an aggravation!

5 out of 5 eggsNice unit

Pros: Records and plays back BD and many other formats. It arrived in great shape and worked from the first moment. It looks good on my desk. It does everything I need it to do very well.

Cons: Universal instructions were a bit cryptic and tough to find the installation instruction steps in English, but all instructions for installation were correct and there on the data sheet.

Blu-ray player software was not included, but I wanted a specific company's anyway.

Other Thoughts: Great price, excellent functionality.
