1 out of 5 eggsNice, but doesn't play BluRay

Pros: Hardware works great. Included software "LG Hi Def Suite" had every feature I could think of and seemed stable and pleasant to use.

Cons: The included software "CyberLink PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra" (part of the LG Hi Def Suite) will not play recent retail BluRay discs. The software will get into an infinite loop of "Update Required", "Update Complete" without actually accomplishing anything on recent BluRay discs. CyberLink PowerDVD Tech support has sent me a specific patch for this drive that failed to resolve the issue, and now they simply say "Sorry".

Note that a trial version of AnyDVD HD software was able to bypass copy protection on the drive and allowed PowerDVD to play back discs, but since it's a 14 day trial and $100 software, as much as the drive itself costs, that's not an ideal solution.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems whatsoever.

Pros: Very fast drive. Coming from a 6 year old DVD burner drive, this thing blew me away with it's speed. Plays Blu-Rays no problem and at an admirable speed.

Cons: Haven't encountered any.

Other Thoughts: Haven't tested HDDVD's because I do not own any, but I'm going to assume it works.

2 out of 5 eggsNot so fast...

Pros: - Plays Blu-ray, I think.
- Burns DVDs ok.

Cons: - Slow read for Blu-ray, DVD, everything.
- Power DVD 7 is garbage.
- A bit too long for certain cases.

Other Thoughts: The only way I am able to watch Blu-ray with these drives, is by placing a Blu-ray disc in it, and ripping it to the hard drive. Otherwise, the video keeps breaking up due to slow read. - DO NOT get the OEM version of this, or you won't even get the bad Power DVD 7 that comes with the retail version. You will eventually have to get Power DVD 9 Ultra.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: Has software disk included with everything that is needed. Reads/plays HD-DVD movies, reads/plays Blu-Ray movies. Have not tried burning data/lightscribe label, but both are common technology that has been around for a while.

Cons: Only two very minor things. First, the light on the drive to indicate it is in use is bright, but my tower has a door that covers the bay I mounted it in, so it is not a problem. Second, it is somewhat loud, but just sounds like an extra fan inside the case; when playing a HD/Blu-Ray movie, I plan to have the surround sound going, so that will easily cover up the extra sound from this drive.

Other Thoughts: Before using this drive, I had to install the programs from the included utilities disk and do an update from the Internet. Once I did that, the first HD-DVD I tried (Batman Begins) worked like a charm, as did the first Blu-Ray I tried (Iron Man). So far, very pleased with this drive and included software.

3 out of 5 eggsLoud, but gets the job done

Pros: Solid, all components still in operation after 6 months, has burned hundreds of Songs, movies, OSes, and games, SATA 3GB/s, almost future-proof!

Cons: Slow reading speeds coupled by even slower writing speeds, currently the loudest component on my machine

Other Thoughts: Would I buy it again? probably, especially if LG makes it faster!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect if you have the right system

Pros: This Blu-Ray drive worked absolutely perfect. My 22" Acer monitor and my PNY GeForce 9600GT cards in SLI make playing moving flawless. It comes with all the software needed to watch the movies I watched the first 30 minutes of The Incredible Hulk on Blu-Ray and the quality is just amazing.

Cons: Not a single problem, other than the LightScribe software not working on the Windows 7 RC.

Other Thoughts: You must update the CyberLink software that comes with the drive or it will not play the latest Blu-Ray and HD-DVD titles. The drive already comes with the latest firmware, so that is not a factor. Also, be sure your monitor and video card are both HDCP capable. Probably the biggest reason why people have trouble with Blu-Ray on computers is they don't set everything up completely or their systems are incompatible. If you have the system, compatible parts, and update the software till it says there are no more updates available, you should have no problem using this drive.

3 out of 5 eggsGood drive when working!!

Pros: Drive is killer fast at burning CD-R and DVD-R. Gotta love the Blu-ray and the fact that it still can play HD-DVD, even though I do not own any.

Cons: Drive stopped working after 38 days of ownership. This would be a 5 star if not for that fact!!

Other Thoughts: Contacted LG Cust. Svc. and they are sending me a shipping label to return the drive to them and send me a new one under the one year manufacturers warranty!! Good service from LG on this point.
