4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very easy to get started. Plays most thing without any problems.

Cons: PowerDVD that comes with it wont play all blu-rays. I tried to play the new Die Hard and I had to skip all the way to the menu or else it would freeze.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Worked great right out of the box. Put it into my newest i7 build and didn't have a single issue with it. Very straight forward. Everything that was needed was included in box.

Cons: None, it's a drive, it works, and looks nice.

Other Thoughts: With regards to the previous review commenting that you need to purchase PowerDVD seperately if you order this - I don't know if maybe that was the case with him/her, but the disk that came with mine had PowerDVD on it.

After a 5 minute install of the drivers and the software included with the drive, I had PowerDVD playing a BluRay copy of Rambo. Can't complain :)

2 out of 5 eggsWorks in Some SATA Ports

Pros: Burns DVDs, no IDE cable to deal with.

Cons: Had an issue on two different MBs with this, EVGA 780i first, then on my Gigabyte EP45-UD3P I had it plugged into one of the Gigabyte SATA ports, and the system was sluggish (with a quad 9650 and 4GBs Ram, and GTX260!) could not open DVDs to see files on disc, windows explorer kept crashing and timed out. Made system unusable. Plugged drive into chipset controled SATA (Intel) and fixed problem. This was using Vista Ultimate 64

Other Thoughts: Come on, if something is SATA it should work in any port, and Vista has been out a long time. I would not recommend this drive to anyone without an intel chipset as it never worked on my 780i.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Awesome

Pros: It has been a pretty slick drive so far, does everything I need it to.

Cons: Since it does not come with the blu-ray software you need to play the disc's, you need to shell out 100+ dollars for software to support bluray playback, such as powerdvd.
And be careful when you purchase that software, only the highest and newest version supports bluray, the rest will dissapoint.

Other Thoughts: none

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive, flawed software

Pros: Drive is quiet, fast, and operates flawlessly.

Cons: I bought this to play Blu-ray discs on mainly, as well as burning some. The bundled PowerDVD software ran a few of my br discs (not all) until it automatically downloaded an update with explicit the purpose of playing br discs better. After the update, however, the software refused to recognize any bluray discs at all. I spent about 10 hours troubleshooting this problem (firmware, drivers, and os updates, reinstallation, etc) before giving up and buying windvd 9. That plays all my br discs without any trouble.

Other Thoughts: The drive is awesome and is at an awesome pricepoint here on newegg. No regrets. It is somewhat pathetic, though, that the bundled software doesn't function as advertised.

4 out of 5 eggsNo cables or S/W

Pros: Very nice unit at a great price. No problems so far.

Cons: Do be caucious that the OEM version does not come with either cables or the S/W disk needed to install and operate it. If you bought a completed computer and do not have extra SATA cables, you'll have to get them. Not worth the trouble for the small savings. Also no install screws. I could not get onto the site so don't know if S/W can be downloaded. I bought one retail and 2 OEM, so I'm fine with S/W. Got the extra SATA cables with MB.

3 out of 5 eggsGood drive, bad PowerDVD

Pros: Works well, fairly quiet.

Cons: I was one of the unfortunate ones that GOT the PowerDVD 7 software with my drive. It will not output 5.1 channels, either s/pdif or HDMI, on Blu-ray playback.

You are limited to 2 channels, so I immediately removed it and vowed that, when purchasing functional software, Cyberlink will not be one of my choices.

There is nothing to this effect in the manual, which tells you to enable s/pdif output. However, the check box that does this is missing from the settings menu. I spent hours fiddling with it and googling before I found out it's limited to 2 channel output. It's really inconsiderate to waste people's valuable time with crapware like this.

5 out of 5 eggs1 more thing

Pros: I forgot to say that if you do have power dvd 8 ultra if you get the update then you will loose the ability to play hd dvd's.

Cons: None so far for me.
