5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought in 2009 and still works today... when I use it.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Works good... if you need one. Flash drives are more convenient.

3 out of 5 eggsCould not burn Phlips or RiData discs

Pros: I need to explain my rating. Until 2 months ago, I would've rated this drive 5 stars. It did what it was supposed to. It played blu-ray movies just fine, and burned just fine as well (that is, only Verbatim non-LTH)

Then about 2 months ago, all the new blu-ray movies I was renting could no longer be played in the included software, which is PowerDVD 7. To play new BD movies I now have to spend another $100 to buy the newer version of PowerDVD to deal with the latest encryptions!!!

That's why until 2 days ago I would have rated 4 stars, but today I'm rating 3 stars because I just ordered some Philips BD-R's and the discs won't even start burning. I then tried the RiData BD-R that came with the drive and the drive won't even recognize it.

Worst of all, I contact LG tech support and they told me this drive only works with XP/Vista only, and that because I am using Win7 there is nothing they can do!!!

I spent $170 on something that doesn't even work with Win7!!!

Cons: No Windows 7 support
Cannot burn Philips BD-R (win7)
Cannot recognize RiData BD-R that came with the drive (win7)
Came with PowerDVD 7 which is currently incompatible with all new blu-ray movies due to new encryption

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: It really works great. I run my own HD video production company, and it has yet to give me any troubles at all, and for the price, it cannot be beat. Just be sure that the BRD's you purchase are compatible with the burner. The more you know...

Cons: The only one I had was mine came with no drivers or software for actual viewing of HD DVD's or BRD's... but that's easily fixable with a quick web search.

Other Thoughts: Worth the money, even for a professional.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does the job it is supposed to do. Burned some 20 BD-R discs from two different brands and a bunch of DVD+R discs so far and no coasters even when I accidentaly unrared a 4.5 GB file while burning a BD-R disc. It just slowed down and finished the job.
Reading all my old DVDs and CDs without a problem.

Cons: It takes two minutes longer to burn the same SONY DVD+R media than with my old Toshiba DVD burner although burning software reports both burners are burning @ 16X

4 out of 5 eggsStick to your guns

Pros: Not too loud, decent speed, works. Completely quiet at video playback speeds.

Cons: Worst issue is that NewEgg has trouble understanding the difference between an "OEM" product and a "we kept everything but the drive" product. OEM products aren't inherently devoid of features like cables, manuals, and software. But I see from the other reviews that I'm not the only one who was sent a drive without all the stuff shown in the photos.

Other Thoughts: Fortunately, I did get sent the software and manual up-front. It took a lot of complaining and back and forth, but I finally got NewEgg to send the cable and power adapter they promised in the photos as well (ironically, I'm sure that NewEgg spent more on the arguing than they did on shipping the missing parts).

I don't know why NewEgg is so "Jekyll and Hyde" when it comes to customer service -- seems like occasionally I get someone who wants to bend over backwards to help, and other times (like this) it's the classic tech customer support run-around -- but if you don't get everything you paid for, be sure to stand up for your rights.

5 out of 5 eggsNice piece of hardware

Pros: Very good playback of blu-ray disc. Accurate burning of blu-ray disc. Performs well burning standard DVD's and CD's.It is a good idea to purchase a re-writeable blu-ray disc for experimenting with blu-ray burning. Also palys HD DVD disc if you happen to run across one. Light scribe is another plus.

Cons: Had to purchase a HDCP compliant monitor for blu-ray playback. I also had frame dropout with 1.7 ghz duo core intel processor. The cyberlink power DVD software has a test window that displays your hardware ability to play Blu-Ray disc. I also ended upgrading to a quad-core intel processor running at 2.67 ghz. for each core. I'm also running SLI video with two nvidea 8600 video cards. You need the hardware to run this baby.

Other Thoughts: With the processor upgrade play back of Blu-Ray disc was perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far

Pros: Received it within 36 hours, installed it in 5 minutes. It came with everything I needed ( hardware and software ) Someone said they got a BD DVD with it, I didnt but I dont remember seeing that in the offer. Runs great. I havent tried burning anything yet. Will update this if that is a problem

Cons: None that I have experienced so far

Other Thoughts: New egg shipping is great. Their prices are great too. I would probably buy more from them except that I dont like waiting sometimes to get stuff. I bought this from New Egg because it was the only bd burner that I had seen that played HD DVD also. I have a few HD movies and didnt want to lose them. What Im curious about most is the storage. I am a photographer and am excited about 25gb of storage on one disc and 50gb on a dual layrer. Will be nice when the newness wears off and the price of the blank DVDs comes down a bit.

Great job again by New Egg

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: cheaper then the rest of the burners out there so far. Works great. very quite. can't even hear it. Came with cyberlink power dvd hd program. Took about 45 minutes to read and write a 17.5GB movie.

Cons: I give the burner a 5 but as far as the compatability issues go, be careful buying one of these if you don't have an hdcp monitor which most aren't and a hdcp video graphics card to support it. without either one you can't watch blu ray on your computer. I had to do some research and found that if you get anydvd hd, that it will bypass this issue and allow you to watch the movie as well as remove any copyright protection on the disc. Haven't really found any good programs that work well and that are easy to create backups of your favorite blu ray movies.

Other Thoughts: Still alot more expensive the just burning regular dvds. Make sure you have a sata slot open on the mobo for hook up. Also a sata type connector from your power supply to connect power to the burner. Mine came with an adapter but you may have to purchase seperate if they do not supply you with one.
