5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Works great. Handles everything I have thrown at it.

Cons: Doesn't do the dishes.

Other Thoughts: Works under all operating systems I have tried. Ubuntu, Debian, XP, Win 2000.
Have never tried Lightscribe, so I cannot comment on that. Who wants to pay extra for the CDs/DVDs?

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: Dual layer writing
Lightscribe labeling
Good speed

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: One of the few external drives that offer dual layer writing, and lightscribe labeling. The software is OK for a netbook. The drive is compatible with an ASUS 1000HE.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

Pros: I have a large backpack I use to carry all my tech gear between client sites. This drive takes a beating inside one of the pickets. It lasted 1.5 years before the spindle motor died. I'm picking up another one as a replacement. It works perfectly under Ubuntu Linux including the ability to write Lightscribe labels (using the La Cie software)

Cons: USB plug is *very slightly* recessed. The provided cable works great, but I've occasionally run into cables that don't work.

Other Thoughts: I really wish this drive were slot-load instead of tray-load. That would make it absolutely perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat DL burner

Pros: Great little burner. I have been using this for backing up all my xbox 360 games. Could not have asked for a better product and newegg coming through with the deals as always. Very quiet and not one bad burn yet. 5 eggs for this device.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Have not tried the Lightscribe feature yet.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: I have owned this unit for over a year and traveled a lot. Over 100 DVDs burnt and no coasters to date.
Highly recommend this one to all my co-workers for client deliverables in CD format. Lightscribe is a plus when providing client data on CDs.

Cons: Waiting for faster Burner Speeds.

Other Thoughts: Will purchase again and from the EGG.

5 out of 5 eggsTwo USB cables

Pros: *** Newegg - I know you don't want discussion but I'm trying to help the buyers here.

One of the provided USB cables is for power, if needed. There are some laptops whose USB ports do not produce enough power to run external drives. This is to save on battery power consuption when only powering a mouse and keyboard. Drive manufactures either include an AC/DC power adapter or two USB cables to ensure there will not be power failures resulting in data loss. This product which I am considering purchasing is using two USB cables.

Cons: Older laptops may have only one USB port. This device is not for you.

Other Thoughts: For those sharing the device for both laptop and PC, most desktop PCs will not need the extra cable for the power.

3 out of 5 eggsHelpful Hint????

Pros: I haven't really used the item yet because I thought it was DOA out of the box but I wanted to post this in case someone has the same problem that I did.

Cons: After trying to get the item to work on 1 computer for hours, I tried it in 2 other computers and still nothing. However, what I did notice was that as I was moving the rewriter to the different PC's, the USB cord (not the a/c one) would slip out of the rewriter. So this morning I replaced that cord with the one from my PS3 and sure enough, it worked right away.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't have noticed this problem initially because the writer was sitting right next to my PC so the USB cord appeared stable and hadn't slipped out.

Hope this helps.
