Great Drive...first impression at least
- Pros: Just recieved the drie and first I have to say that newegg shipped it out very quickly. the drive itself work flawlessly. Bought this to replace a HP ultra slim drive in an enclosure and that drive consgtantly had issues (disk hitting the sides, wouldn't mount properly, etc.) unpacked the box, plugged in the single usb plug and I was installing Win7 Ultimate in a minute, seriously! very quiet and fast. Highly recommend especially if you are like me and have a tablet without a built in drive. FYI, I used this with a HP TC1100 and no problems at all with either the BIOS or Win7
- Cons: Nothing Yet
- Other Thoughts: haven't tried to burn yet
It's what you'd expect
- Pros: It works, it's slim, powered by USB (2 ports) only.
- Cons: It's nothing amazing, but it is what it is.
- Other Thoughts: Works, and is a good price (when I bought it as a Shell Shocker).
Not bad
- Pros: Slim, glossy finish.
It works.
- Cons: There is no cable management. But then, no other external drives at this price range seem to have cable management. :(
Come on. It is not that hard to come up with some sort of cable management like Dell did with their D/Bay.
- Other Thoughts: This drive is rated 1.6A, but USB port specification only guarantees 500mA. This could cause I/O errors while reading or burning CD/DVD.
This problem can occur in all USB powered external ODDs.
LG installed a super capacitor (that is capacitor with large capacity) rated 5V 0.5F to solve this problem to some degree. However, this may not be enough if USB port cannot keep up with current this burner is drawing.
Would been nice if they supplied 5V power adapter in case this problem occur.
