Is a BLu-Ray Reader/ DVD+ CD Burner
- Pros: reads Blu-ray, DVD & CD's FAST.
16X is a sufficient speed for burning DVD+R's and 12x for DVD-DL
Lightscribe works great, and makes discs look professional
Quite when doing everything, which is nice. Hopefully this will last,
4MB cache
- Cons: none I can think of yet
- Other Thoughts: I bought this as a second ODD drive for my
XPS 730x which came with a Blu-Ray burner. Now I can backup my blu-ray DVD's /DVD's & Cd's without having to move any discs until they are finished!

Excellent Buy & Support
- Pros: Excellent product
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: My real reason for writing this review is to pass along my experience with LG Customer Support. Many times we purchase a product based on what others have to say about product support. Quick answer: LG Customer Support (800-243-0000) is EXCELLENT. I purchased this drive to replace my LG BD (Model: GGC-H20L) which stopped being recognized by my computer & Vista. The drive was a Newegg special back on 11-28-2008 and it worked perfectly until 2 weeks ago. Tonight I decided to try and get it repair. My call to LG Customer Support was answered on the first ring and my session lasted about 15 minutes. We discussed what was wrong - and what I had done to test the drive (put it into another computer - same problem). The Rep then asked the normal questions about the drive and myself. Then I was given 2 options for replacement - send me prepaid shipping labels via email or give them a credit card and they ship the replacement and await your return.

Blu-ray drive
- Pros: Doesn't sound like a jet engine when spinning. This is important because I put it in a HTPC.
- Cons: None really, had to update the firmware out of the box but that is pretty common for blu-ray.
- Other Thoughts: Great price, gets blu-ray functionality on your PC.
CD / DVD works (BD not tested)
- Pros: Installed OK, CD and DVD functions work. Good drive.
Can't test Blue-ray yet, no media source. (bought it to have on hand) Audio CD rip at 23x with C2 correction turned on using EAC (impressive) DVD-VIDEO fair, varied a bit but it may have been the media, this is not the fastest nor the slowest drive I have for DVD/CD. Burned and verified Verbatim 16x and TY well. (Nero 7 and K3B)
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: Also worked well for SATA booting Live CD's
Initial problems w/Blu-Ray playback, but now works great
- Pros: Plays Blu-Rays very well.
Included software outputs full 5.1 channel surround sound (can't do 7.1). No need to pay for an expensive upgrade.
- Cons: Included software isn't technically Windows 7-compatible, but compatibility patches are available on the CyberLink website.
Drive needs a firmware update to 2.00 before Windows 7 will recognize it, and the updater won't work in Windows 7, but it can be run from the Windows 7 Startup Repair environment.
- Other Thoughts: On at least some older systems, Windows 7 installs a generic SATA controller driver which causes problems with Blu-Ray playback. On my system, it meant that I'd have to wait an hour between putting the Blu-Ray in the drive and watching the movie because PowerDVD would freeze, the drive become unresponsive, and the hard drive activity light would come on. If this is the case, installing the driver for the specific SATA controller in your system (in my case, an Intel ICH6, meaning Intel Matrix Storage Manager 7.0) resolves the issue! And if you're like me and need a driver from an older version of that software, it's possible to extract the necessary driver file (iaachi.inf) from the installation package by running it with the "-a" command line switch and, while the software is running, search the C:\Windows\Temp folder for the file.
