1 out of 5 eggsBlu Lite Special

Pros: Tray goes in and out.

Cons: Software primal. Made several upgrades based on software that said my graphics card. PowerDVD was about 4 upgrades behind (PowerDVD6) Stopped working months after warranty expired. I would expect no less than 5 years of "Life's Good" Service out of a company that goes head to head with the likes of Sony, Samsung, ASUS. I did wait too long to call the company after purchase (02/05/2010), but I really thought the issue was with my computer. This was a secondary drive just over a year old, I could imagine it would be broke already. I thought they might at least offer me a discount on a replacement, but all I got was "Sorry, out of warranty" I expect more out my electronic product and SO SHOULD THEY. I am a man that is Loyal to a Product that works for me. My next TV will most likely be a Sony, they have been very good to me, and what issues I have had (even out of warranty) were quickly resolved.

Other Thoughts: If you want a Blu Lite Special, go to Kmart

2 out of 5 eggsJust stopped working

Pros: Worked well, read every disc I threw at it except heavily damaged ones.

Cons: Just stopped working. Won't read anything now, and sometimes seem to create a perfectly circular scratch on the disc. May be due to bad stabilizer

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I bought the 2 year extended warranty from NewEgg. It failed about 1 year after purchase and was out of warranty otherwise.

1 out of 5 eggsIt tried

Pros: Used to run DVDs, games, no problem.

Cons: Went south, couldn't recognize DVDs when inserted. Tried to reinsert DVDs, reboots, adding and removing the rom, and ensuring drivers were updated. Sometimes would work but no more.

Tech support did reply twice suggesting the remove and re-add strategy (which bought another few months of functioning), as well as registry editing and other troubleshooters to assist. None worked.

Other Thoughts: Robust products function longer than a year.

1 out of 5 eggsSO-SO

Pros: Worked OK for about 9 months...Seems to read known working ROM discs of all formats OK.

Cons: Started throwing errors/failing to verify all types of burns after about 9 months...including DVD-Rs, CD-Rs, and RW media of both types from different makers (Sony, Memorex, Maxell etc), using several different programs (IMGburn, PowerISO, Transmac, windows 7 built in burn support..)

Other Thoughts: Greatly annoys me how things are made to break right after the warranty runs out...i didnt even try to RMA it and am not going to, its been about 16 months and the warranty was only 1 did start throwing errors back around 11 months old...but i thought it may have been bad media...but my media burns fine on other drives that are even 8 years older than this. Updated drive firmware to latest did not solve anything. Im really not impressed with optical media as a whole...have 2 older LiteOn dvd burners doing the same thing in another PC. I THOUGHT LG was supposed to be good...thats why i went with them after the LiteOn drives both failed...wich i also thought were supposed to be good when i bought them 4 ish years i suppose i will have to try another brand next time i buy an optical drive.

2 out of 5 eggsStopped working

Pros: Played all media with good speed... for a while.

Cons: Updates stopped around 8 months ago. Blu-Rays played until Sept. then stopped being recognized. No updates from LG. Glad I bought the extended warranty from Newegg.

Other Thoughts: Contacted the extended support line. Fast service and now sending the unit back for either credit or replacement. Seeing a few reviews now that said the new DRM might be the issue. I know it was listed as a legacy product on LG since May 2010. Should have known it would eventually stopped working. Will follow up after I hear back from the warranty people.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Blu-Ray player

Pros: Has played every movie put in it. Using Media Center 7 64 bit & PowerDVD 10. I have rented over 20 movies from netflicks and all worked just fine.

Cons: Noisy unit. Spins up loudly but is reasonable after it starts playing.

Other Thoughts: Use AnyDVD to get around any disc issues

4 out of 5 eggsHTPC Essential

Pros: Came with software to play Blu-Ray. LG has been a good brand for me, the most reliable of what I've bought. Caught this on sale, $100 is a great value if you're building a Home Theater PC! Quiet, no issues! Includes Lightscribe, nice for making quality looking disks, if you feel you need to spend that kind of money.

Cons: It doesn't write Blu-Ray but I knew that going in.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has become my favorite eRetailer!
