5 out of 5 eggsGreat burner

Pros: It has it all. It even came with a sata cable, power connector, and software. Surprising package for an OEM drive. Straight forward installation.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Great drive, does everything it says perfectly. My old SATA dvd reader/writer died and I got this to replace it on the black friday sale (129.99).

At first I was nervous to use the drive for all purposes (playing DVD's, blu-rays, cds and burning all of those). Then I realized, there are different lasers for them and that I bought it to use... It's still kickin' after pretty steady use since purchase.

Cons: Blu-Ray software is obnoxious... Unfortunately the codecs a) do not come with OEM drives and b) are not native to any OS yet. That being said - if you get one and are in the market for the software - absolutely get Corel WinDVD 2010 Plus for it. The other ones my friends have are finicky with drivers & hardware and have awful GUI's.

Other Thoughts: I haven't compared these to other options, but for the price - this drive is great. I would be willing to buy it at the non-sale price if I hadn't already gotten one!

5 out of 5 eggsGood burner

Pros: Burns blu-ray, dvd and cds with no problems. THe drive is faster than I thought it would be.

Cons: The cost of blank blu-ray media. It takes an hour to burn a blu-ray disk. I can save the iso in about 15 minutes to my hard drive.

Other Thoughts: Even though it was OEM my order came with the cyberlink blu-ray burning software and a sata cable. The drive works very well.

5 out of 5 eggsshhhh!!! It's quiet!

Pros: Very quiet, reads/burns everything I've thrown at it that it's supposed to read.

Cons: Doesn't play the HD-DVDs that I had but it doesn't matter, I couldn't find software for less than $100 to plat the darn things anyway. Long.

Other Thoughts: If I could go back and skip buying the other drive with HD-DVD playback, I would have easily bought 2 of these.

Pros: Plug and Play, works great. Came with applications, and a blue ray suite....nice

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: These are larger than a typical disk drive, plan to adjust your setup if running SLI

5 out of 5 eggsWorked right out of the bubble wrap!

Pros: It works fine with Windows 7 (64 bit) with no updates of any kind and seems compatible with all my software like Nero 9, CloneDVD, AnyDVD, etc.

I literally had it installed and working in about 5 minutes from opening the box to loading a disc.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: Lots of people complain about the bundled software but this is usually junk so I never count on it for anything. I have it loaded but am not using for much of anything and will probably uninstall it soon.

1 out of 5 eggsNo software

Pros: Relatively low price

Cons: No software. I've tried Power DVD, WinDVD, and TotalMedia Player. They all work on some Blu-ray discs, but none seem to be 100% reliable. Do yourself a favor, just watch blu-ray on a blu-ray player and not your PC.

2 out of 5 eggsLG Has Terrible Support

Pros: Plays DVD's flawlessly out of the box

Cons: Bad firmware, cannot play or write blu-ray with power DVD 9. Didn't come with any of the peripherals other eggers received with their drive (no cables, no firmware disc, no power DVD had that from another drive)

LG has the worst customer support I've ever dealt with. See Below

Other Thoughts: When calling their toll free support line (800.243.0000) I get the same 2 automated voices (one male and one female) when trying to get to their consumer electronics customer support.

I get to what seems like an operator asking me to verify some information. It's a ploy. It's one of 2 voices every time I call back. The voices crackle and breakup (on purpose). The male voice always uses a name that starts with a J. The three times I've received the male voice it stated his name was Joe, Jay, and John in the same accent and its the same voice. It goes through a loop pretending it can't hear me and finally cuts the line. The female also used names starting with J and does the same thing.

It's a sham and a scam. My phone connection is perfectly fine and I tried on both a land line and my cell phone. I can make and receive calls on both lines as expected but when I try to call LG it crackles and pops and the automated voices go through their loop. Unbelievable. Class action suit worth

4 out of 5 eggsCheck IDE/ATAPI drivers

Pros: Very quiet drive, looks nice

Cons: Drive isn't compatible with nForce4 on my Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard.

Wasted quite a few Verbatim Blu-ray discs and Verbatim DVD discs which was no fault by Verbatim.

Other Thoughts: I spent time and Verbatim discs both Blu-ray and DVD to get this drive running right. Come to find it was my nForce4 IDE ATAPI controller.

Once I uninstalled those drivers and used the default Microsoft drivers everything worked fine. Since then, I've successfully burned all media without a problem.

4 eggs for compatibility issues.

Running: Windows XP SP3
Asus A8N-SLI Premium

Pros: Installed with sata cable .got some good power dvd software in the box to play bd on my pc. burnt recently released movie plays fine on my stand alone blue ray player. does what it says it will do .and it really doesnt take that long. most likely more than a few of the people that give it bad reviews. have not the tech abilitys to make it work. takes a little savy fellas. and the discs must be super clean not a speck of finger goo

Cons: nada

Other Thoughts: thanks new egg. best prices, best customer service and eggcellent product
