The LG Super Multi Blue BP40NS20 slim portable Blu-ray rewriter features USB 2.0 connectivity, with a 6x BD-R write speed. Simply plug in and record up to 50GB of files, photos, or business documents onto a dual-layer BD-R disc. With Blu-ray, DVD, and CD burning capabilities, the BP40NS20 gives you the option to choose the media best suited for each task.

BDXL Ultimate Capacity
Three-layer BDXL-R/BDXL RE discs offer 100GB capacity, while quad-layer BDXL-R discs boast 128GB storage capacity. You can now write up to 128GBs of data on a single quad-layer BDXL disc, which is the equivalent of 27 standard DVDs or five single-layer Blu-ray discs.
6x BD-ROM Reading and Max 8x DVD-RW Writing Speed
Capture all the excitement of Blu-ray with the 6x BD-ROM reader that offers for smooth playback. Plus, burn more discs in less time with 8x DVD-Max writing speed.
Experience 3D Blu-ray
Take entertainment to the next level with 3D, using the new Power BD-DVD 3D Software bundle. With its 2D-to-3D converting feature, you can bring new dimensions to all your videos.
2D-to-3D Real-Time Converting
Converting 2D to 3D is easy with real-time conversions of DVD titles and any file-based videos. And because it can be transformed in real-time, there's no waiting for you to enjoy the 3D viewing.
Superior Data Protection with M-DISC Support
The M-DISC uses a unique rock-like recording surface, instead of organic dye, to etch your data onto a disc. The M-DISC has been tested and proven to outlast the standard DVDs currently on the market.
SPlay in Peace
As a disc is being read, Silent Play technology automatically controls the disc read speed for optimal noise reduction.
Non-Stop Playability                                                                                                   Jamless Play automatically prevents stop-video playback in the case of a damaged disc, such as scratches or fingerprints, by jumping through the erroneous data or damaged areas.

4 out of 5 eggsGood simple medium performance unit

Pros: Very easy setup and easy to use

Cons: a little slow. I actually returned it to try to find a usb3 drive. My desktop blu-ray screams in comparison and I'm wondering if it is the interface that is the difference.

3 out of 5 eggsLightScribe

Pros: No problems reading or writing blu ray disks

Cons: Tried to get the LightScribe feature working after a few months of ownership. According to the LG web site this model does not support LightScribe.

5 out of 5 eggsGreatest Thing Since Buttered Toast

Pros: I bought this so I could archive photos to mDisks for millenniums, (1000s of years) especially the best wedding albums. It's great to have my O. S. backed up onto one removable disk Windows-8 loaded great off a Dual-Layer Blue-Ray. When the price of 100GB BDXLs comes down I'll burn all 3 Operating Systems to a few of them so I can put one in and come back later instead of feeding the machine when I'm eventually prompted to, until then I still have my 1.5 TB external RAID-1 (image mirroring) Array (B:/Back-Ups) if I'm at home when my Hard Disk Drive crashes!

Cons: I would like to see it with USB-3 & self powered eSATA, even though it doesn't need it.

Other Thoughts: It seems none of these Blue-Ray-ReWriters spin faster than 2x when Re-Writing.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: None

Cons: This did not work for me on my Macbook Pro. I know that bluray support on a Mac is not friendly, but I didn't try to burn any blurays. I tired to burn a dvd and it failed 3 times in a row. Waste of 3 DL DVDs. Don't buy this!

4 out of 5 eggsFully-featured with a sleek design

Pros: - Nice design. Glossy curved top with a rubbery-textured sides and bottom. The top may end up with micro-scratches, but the bottom feels like it will never slip out of your hand.
- Works with my Mac mini. Looks like it matches well, too. I can play Blu-Ray movies using Mac Blu-Ray Player and able to burn easily with Disk Utility.
- No AC adapter required makes for very portable use. Very tight fit for the mini-USB connection in the back means it won't pop off inadvertently, but I don't know if it's something you want to plug and unplug constantly.
- Full-featured device. Can burn Blu-Ray, BDXL, M-Disc, DVD+/-RW DL, DVD-RAM, nearly anything you want to throw at it.

Cons: - Loops indefinitely when it can't read a Blu-Ray disc, requires a paperclip to eject or power-cycle. Keep one handy.
- Requires two USB ports on host. I plugged both into a powered USB hub and it failed to power-up properly, so I ended up plugging both directly to the back of my Mac mini, and it works fine. Short-lengthed Y-cable means I'll never be able to plug it into my MacBook Air has one USB port on each side of it. It would have been nice to have the option to plug an AC adapter directly.
- It's not 12X burning like internal writers, but it's not expected.

Other Thoughts: I bought this specifically for my Mac, and I took somewhat of a gamble that it would work. I didn't even try the included software disc, but I'm sure it works well on the PC side.

The first BD movie I tried to play was 2012, and it couldn't read it, but it read and played my Star Trek BD disc just fine. Not so much of a bag of hurt as Steve Jobs said!
