M-DISC

Compared to other recordable DVDs on the market today, MDISC offers superior reliability in data storage that provides the permanent optical data storage solution.

Serial ATA Technology

Serial ATA is a 1.5Gbps evolutionary replacement for the Parallel ATA physical storage interface used to connect storage devices, such as hard disks, DVD and CD rewriters to the PC motherboard. Serial ATA is scalable, enables design of smaller PCs, and will allow future enhancements to the computing platform.

4 out of 5 eggsWatch the Software issue

Pros: Great priced drive, came with software even though it is sold as OEM. looks fine, worked great

Cons: My HTPC is running windows 8 and the version of CyberDVD that came with the OEM drive is only compatible with Win 7. had to upgrade to the newest version of their software when I switched to Win 8.

4 out of 5 eggsStill working; no problems

Pros: Haven't had any problems with this drive. Doesn't seem loud and loads discs in a reasonable amount of time.

Cons: none?

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried lightscribe as I don't really burn CDs/DVDs anymore. Primarily bought this drive to read bluray discs.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected, included software.

Pros: Basic functionality as expected. Have not used it for 3-D. Includes Cyberlink software including PowerDVD 10. Works on Windows 8. Downloaded and update from the version on disc.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I had problems getting the Power DVD to play BluRays. Problem was with cheap HDMI cable from NewEgg that worked for HDMI as long as HDCP was not needed. When trying to play BluRays with cheap cable the screen kept going black for several seconds at a time.

5 out of 5 eggsBest OEM drive

Pros: Works exactly as specified. Looks great as well.

Came with Blu Ray player software, SATA cable, and molex to sata power. This is unusual for OEM products. The software worked and didn't say anything about being a trial.

Cons: Discontinued

Other Thoughts: Honestly, it's a shame this drive is discontinued. I would have bought another one for an older desktop.
