1 out of 5 eggsOverpriced & hobbibly packaged

Pros: It is an LG drive

Cons: I have never seen such horrible packaging for an optical drive. The packing slip claims that the drive is "new" and yet it is packaged like a refurb or used drive. It is also overpriced for a Blu-ray reading drive, especially when you can buy a BR writer for much less. The worst part of this really is the packaging - it was completely unacceptable for electronics such as this. I will NEVER purchase anything from Action Package ever again.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: Worked for a while

Cons: Once you pay for this you have to shell out a lot more just for the programs to play blu ray disks and those programs may not even work. It also failed just over a year.

4 out of 5 eggsGets the job done (2 Years)

Pros: The drive was installed and rarely used, but when used, generally worked just fine. Easy installation, etc.

Cons: It sometimes had issues with stopping midway through a burning of a CD. However, I think I can pin that on the actual files being burned. After putting them through a format converter, the files would burn just fine.

3 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: It works. I didnt need to do anything to get it to work. Win7 64 picked it up instantly. Despite the con, I am content with using this (for a while).

Cons: The 3 eggs is a generous rating. Everything works but in the middle of playing a movie (with cyberlink powerdvdpro) the movie will stutter and pause and the drive will start to spin up. Im guessing it falls into a standyby mode and then needs to catch up with the player. A bummer. This was quite pricey compared to other options.

Other Thoughts: Have it in my PC/HTPC connected to sata 3 (6gbs) port.
Video card is a 750
Video/sound out via HDMI to yamaha receiver, and then to TV.
Cyberlink PowerDvd Pro (trial version)

1 out of 5 eggsWorst case scenario....

Pros: It's quiet, fast read times when it works

Cons: It consistently will start seeking for no reason (with no disc in) when you boot up the PC and will not stop until you pull the power from the drive itself, shutting down the machine will not stop it (will start again when you power back up)
After updating to the newest firmware, it doesn't even work half the time, the BIOS doesn't even see it. Have to rollback to original firmware to get the original issue back.

Other Thoughts: I always trusted LG to make good products but this one was a dude from the beginning.... I wish I would have RMA's it from the start but now it is way past too late and I am stuck with a some thing just better than a paperweight....

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Looks Good. It worked for only 3 to 4 months.

Cons: Worked for only a short while. Inserting a DVD it my start-up or it may not. More often NOT. If you could get the DVD spinning, it may abort the read in the middle of the DVD. This happens on all non BD DVDs.

Other Thoughts: Time to look for a more reliable drive.

2 out of 5 eggswhen it actually works......

Pros: It reads Blu-ray movies with programs that are not provided. the DVD burner function is fast,

Cons: Constant seek issues.... not sure what else to call it but when I turn on the PC it will just seek nonstop, the only way to stop it is to unplug the power on the back of the drive wait a few secs and plug it back in. It occasionally even happens while trying ti use the drive. I have tried restarting the PC with no luck. I am not sure how to fix this, so it becomes quite useless often, luckily I have 2 other SATA DVD burners I can use. I have flashed the firmware to the latest version it still has this issue.

Other Thoughts: When it works it works great but the problem is, Ihave to leave the side of my pc off all the time so I can unplug and plug this drive back in at least 3 times a week

4 out of 5 eggsGreat with Blu-ray

Pros: Great for burning blu-rays and dvds. Quick at reading and playing blu-rays.

Cons: The dvd reading speeds aren't the best but not a let down.

2 out of 5 eggsThink Twice

Pros: Fairly fast 12X BD-ROM

Cons: OEM = no software period. Call me silly, but I thought the expensive Drive ($69 on sale back then) would at least include a link to Blu-ray player software. It does not. It will read Blu-Ray data disks, but it will not play Blu-ray movies unless you spend another $50+ on software.

Other Thoughts: It is an OEM drive after all, but what good is it? CyberLink PowerDVD 13 Ultra costs $79!!! Yikes!
