5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Purchased when on sale for $79.99 free shipping. Works with Optical Quantum and Windata. Overall nice drive. Vibration is normal for a laptop drive. Has to do with the thickness of some discs, however does not affect performance whatsoever. LG has put out some very good Optical Products. Have not been disappointed yet.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: easy setup and ran out of the box

Cons: no software incuded for playing bluray

Other Thoughts: as said, it didnt come with software, but that was exspected with it being an OEM. I had to find and pay for a player to play bluray moveis on my laptop due to WMP not having the codecs, and couldnt find a free player that worked as advertized. All and all, I had bought this as a replacement drive for the DVD combo drive in my asus G75 after the old one stopped detecting discs.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality: one warning

Pros: Unit came in great shape and was a bare drive just like I expected. Neweggs excellent experience was everything I wanted it to be. This is the normal laptop drive format of 12.7 mm which is basically a half inch in depth. I'm sure it performs wonderfully from other reveiws.

Cons: Beware if you have a 'thin' laptop. There are plenty of laptop models out there that use a drive that is even slimmer. If the thickest part of your drive's metal casing (without attached bezel [where the eject button is]) is 12.7 mm or a bout a half inch this will fit. If it is less, it will not.

Other Thoughts: I didn't want to hurt this product's rating, but a change in the market means more information should be listed. Some laptops that are very thin use a different format drive. Your laptop manufacturer may not list this new super-slim format in it's product specs. Some manufacturers have switched to a optical drive that is only 9.5 mm thick. This means this normal format will not fit in those laptops. My experience only includes the HP DM4 series which uses an even smaller format 9.5mm drive than the normal 12.7mm, but you should be sure to check that this drive is compatible with your PC. If you cannot find the drive size information from your manufacturer; remove your optical drive (easy for most that would purchase something like this) and compare the inside end to the photo. This is the end with the SATA connector. Look specifically at the spacing of the threaded screw holes. You will notice that the screw holes for a 9.5mm drive are different in the spacing pattern.

4 out of 5 eggsGotta find a mSATA cable

Pros: I'm sure this will be a great drive, has other outstanding reviews and I've never had a bad LG product.

Cons: Partly my fault that I didn't look at the picture of the rear of the drive, but this requires a mini-SATA cable which is NOT included. I'm only deducting 1 egg for this as it's partly my fault and I've yet to read a bad review on this drive.

Really wish it came with the proper cabling or was at least properly listed on the site as mini-SATA.

Other Thoughts: Again, don't want to sound too negative, just disappointed by lack of information on this listing. If I would have paid better attention to the pictures I would have noticed the mini SATA connection.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother Outstanding LG Product

Pros: Excellent value; performs all read/write/re-write operations flawlessly thus far, anticipate long-term reliability, given the performance/longevity of my other LG purchases, build quality looks/feels solid, looks aesthetically simple, as such, can make it "work" with basically any system build.

Cons: Honestly, I can't think of any. Wait, here goes... ***SPOILER ALERT; nonsense incoming!*** LG, I'm absolutely disgusted and disappointed that you have FAILED to disappoint or disgust me. EVER. This would be an unacceptable, inexcusable, and offensive product, if we lived in an alternate reality, in which absolute nonsense, fiction, and a complete lack of logic prevailed in society (and to the cynics out there... yes, sometimes, I also notice those "alternate realities" melding together at once in daily life... who doesn't?).

Other Thoughts: Appears to be a simple, slim, mild-mannered optical drive. But don't let it mislead you; it's actually a highly functional, versatile, reliable, solid performer! Kudos again, LG... I am disappointed that you can't disappoint me!

5 out of 5 eggsFirst properly working BD-RE DL burner for me.

Pros: Does everything. DVD(All formats) BD(BD-R,BD-RE, BD-RE, DL)
Dont know if some one will get it, but it sounds right. (When you are in computer science field for long enough you can tell by first couple spins if drive is working properly)

Cons: Little slow on BD-RE DL(6 total hours for Formating BD-RE DL, Zeroing sectors, then burning 45gb iso on 2x speed)

Other Thoughts: Needed a BD-RE DL burner. To tell you the truth didnt do any research before buying my first Panasonic UJ240AS.
Came out to be a total waist of time. (could recognized BD-RE DL no matter what i did. Firmware updates are not available) returned it back to @m@z0n. After some short introduction to its functionality on LG website decided to go with this LG BT30N despite absence of any reviews. After installation used the same brand new Verbatim BD-RE DL that panasonic wouldn't recognize. BT30N Instantly recognized it. Imgburn did all the formating and zeroing in about 4 hours and 40min. Writing itself on 2x speed took 1hour and 20 min.
BD-R DL writes 3 times faster around 25
BD-R in around 12-15 min.
Overall happy with its performance.
Out of the box didnt include any screws. Just bare drive. Be prepared to provide tiny screws to install it in the bay. Luckily had them provided by my case manufacturer.
