1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy It

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50

Pros: Small and lightweight - USB powered

Cons: Owned it for about 1 year, used it twice initially simply to load a CD/software onto my laptop, stored it in it's original packaging on a shelf, went to use it about a year later and it will not even load a CD to play - tried multiple CD's, all clean, it would spin up one out of 4. Total piece of junk.

Other Thoughts: Don't think I'll ever buy an LG product again.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted just over 1 month

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50

Pros: Good while it worked

Cons: Failed just after 1 month of usage.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this burner as the quality of this product is not that great.

3 out of 5 eggsLoud and power hungry

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50

Pros: Cheap

Brand name. Branding isn't everything, but hey, doesn't hurt.

Bus powered

Cons: I got this to replace a Samsung external drive I thought I'd lost but later found. The Samsung drive is a bluray drive but is also a 12x DVD/CD burner, so close to this LG drive. The Samsung drive is also bus powered but comes with a split USB cable, and unless burning only one usb plug needs to be used.

I've plugged the samsung drive into an unpowered hub and it would read discs just fine (with nothing else plugged in of course), but the LG drive doesn't on the same hub, it needs to be plugged directly into a powered hub or computer USB port. Also it's much louder.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. It's cheap and seems solid, but quieter and more efficient drives are out there.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply put, it's just what it said it was

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50

Pros: No problems

Cons: None. If it's a good price and you need one, buy one.

Other Thoughts: I switched to a case with no open bays for a media drive and wound up selecting this to use as a replacement.

2 out of 5 eggsLASTED ABOUT A YEAR

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50

Pros: Worked well on dozens of different operating systems.

Cons: Failed within a year or so.

Other Thoughts: It sat for a few months and then it couldn't burn discs any longer. Is that worth 2 stars for going a year without problems?

Pros: Fast easy, plug and play off the bat, no software needed!!! No power cable needed, Works out of the box (which to me is most important)

Cons: Beware the tray is slightly fragile, but what External DVD drive isn't ;)

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Mac Air

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50

5 out of 5 eggsGood Stuff

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50

Pros: Slim, fast enough. Price was right.

Cons: M discs are expensive and hard to find.

Other Thoughts: Bought this when I took the optical drive out of my laptop (as I hardly used it since Netflix) and replaced it with a BU HDD (mechanical, to go with the main SSD).
I still occasionally need a CD DVD drive and this does the trick.

3 out of 5 eggsonly fails every bow and then

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50

Pros: just a simple usb cable is all it takes to hook it up. hardly takes up any space, doesn't seem it heat up even under heavy load.

Cons: It seems like every time I try to fill a CD with music something hours wrong with the lady few songs on the disc. I haven't been able to rule out my burning software yet so I only took one egg away from my initial 4 egg rating.
