1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NS50

Pros: Compact, works OK when it worked.

Cons: Unreliable, lasted only a few days and a couple of uses.

Other Thoughts: This worked OK the first time I used it, but went to use it a couple of weeks later and kept getting disc errors. First I thought it was the DVD itself, but another external writer worked perfectly with that disc. Now it has errors on every disc, will read a few files but not all, and all of those discs are OK. This is constructed similar to a laptop drive, and I've had laptop drives last for years without a glitch. Perhaps it's just a rare bad unit, but I thought I'd post this since it failed so quickly and had not been treated roughly at all. The lens is clean (blew it with air to be sure) but it gets errors on every disc. Perhaps the manufacturer will cover it, but I waited too long for Newegg to exchange it as defective, so I may just look for a different brand.

4 out of 5 eggsOK now but strange details

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NS50

Pros: can work ok but sensitive to usb cable

Cons: usb cable very short

Other Thoughts: using windows 8.1. had trouble originally when plugged into usb 3 port, but then in usb 2 it worked fine. then i discovered it was the cord. the one that comes with the unit is very short so i was using a usb 2 extension cord into the usb 3 port - that is when i had the trouble. when i just used the cord that came with the unit it works now in the usb 3 port. i tried a second usb 2 extension cord and it also malfunctioned. A little quirky and i need to experiment with more cords but the unit works fine if this issue does not create a problem

2 out of 5 eggsNice attempt.

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NS50

Pros: Slim
USB powered

Cons: Filed to burn DVD-DL.

Other Thoughts: Being aware of bad reviews, I decided to test the drive as soon as it arrived. CD burn/read - OK. DVD+R burn/read - OK. DVD-DL burn - failed twice. Returning this :/

5 out of 5 eggsWorks out of box.

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NS50

Pros: Affordable and does what its supposed to. Installed windows and numerous games through usb with this device. Working just fine.
Looks very slick for how thin the device is.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: USB cord that comes with this device is short. Plan to have this next to or on top of your pc.

2 out of 5 eggsgood looking, not so good working

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NS50

Pros: Looks great! Lightweight. No installation necessary, just plug it in and off you go.

Cons: You get less than a month's use out of it. It won't read CDs properly. It's toast, as far as I'm concerned. It's also quite loud, when it chooses to work.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the time.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well, slower than an internal drive

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NS50

Pros: No installation to speak of. USB powered. Computer installed driver automatically when plugged in. Works on Windows XP.

Cons: Slower than an internal drive would be. Activity light a little dim.

Other Thoughts: I bought this just to install a program on a windows xp computer that the original dvd drive had died on. It is only used once a month to update this program, and for that it is fine. It takes twice as long to update using this over what it took with the original dvd drive, but didn't want to fool with it, so I bought this.

5 out of 5 eggsNice little burner

This review is from: LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NS50

Pros: Small, light reads and writes nicely for this kind of product. Another good reason we really don't need DVDs in laptops since they die so quickly anyway

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: For the price, can't be beat.
