5 out of 5 eggsSweet!

Pros: So far so good with this drive. I'll report back once Ive owned it more than a day if there are issues.
I mainly wanted to report that I ordered this on a Tuesday and had it in my hands on Wednesday! I didnt select any faster shipping or anything, just supurb service from Newegg!

Also I was able to pay with Bitcoin, huge plus! (maybe thats why it was shipped so fast? ;) who knows....)

Cons: None so far. :)

4 out of 5 eggsdrive ray

Pros: $35 with promo code is a great price for a blu-ray drive. why get an older dvd drive even if you don't own any blu rays at this moment. a little future proofing but 4k hd blu ray is coming...

seems manufactured by asus for LG. oem packaging. bubbled wrapped. unable to upgrade firmware. will try again later, but probably not necessary

comes with asus cd

plays blu-rays fine. opted to pay $20 for easy-dvd instead of tinkering around with VLC. saved the hassle

hoping to get good use out of this drive. it's reliability is an unknown at this point

Cons: a little noisy when spinning but this can't be helped

led flashes when playing a strobe/cinema effect. took a sharpie to block this. I'm sensitive

Other Thoughts: no screws included

1 out of 5 eggsMehh, died after 2.5 months

Pros: -Plug and play.
-Cheap.
-Worked fine for first 2 months.

Cons: -Max read I ever saw was around 10x but usually more like 4-6x.
-After 2.5 months it stopped working and crashed my computer every time I insert a disk. LG is sending replacement, hope that one lasts.

Other Thoughts: LG customer services was great to work with but still sucks you have to wait for it to get to them then wait for replacement to be sent out to you. If you are avid movie watcher, that's 2-3 weeks withou a bluray drive.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed - 7 months

Pros: Worked when installed.

Cons: Failed after 7 months of very light usage.

Other Thoughts: Used drive probably a total of 15-20 times over 7 months before it failed. Poor quality. Costs more to ship in for service than replace, LG is unapologetic about warranty replacement policies.

5 out of 5 eggsUH12NS30-OEM

Pros: it was time to upgrade, with the $15 off promo code it was a steal...plug and play, burned a DVD to test right away, as with most DVD/CD writer/players today it does makes some noise on spinup, but otherwise very quiet...

Cons: obviously none so far...

Other Thoughts: Upgraded to be able to play Blue-Ray disks and still have DVD/CD writing...hopefully it will give years of smooth operation...got the extended three year warranty, it kicks in after the one year manu warranty expires, so for $10 four years of total coverage, a very inexpensive insurance, highly recommended...

4 out of 5 eggsEasy Upgrade to my Media Server

Pros: I just added this drive to as a PCTV Gateway system that I use as a media server for my home theatre. Worked right away, recognized and played DVD and BD with no problem. Helps cut down on clutter and space usage with eliminating a free standing BD player that I was using

Cons: OEM. so no cables, documentation or anything else in the package; very bare bones.

Other Thoughts: Quick, easy install; was up and running in 15 minutes out of the box. Bought on sale at $35

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine

Pros: -inexpensive for a Blu-ray drive
-reasonable read/write speeds
-front panel has an attractive brushed aluminum appearance

Cons: -slightly noisy when it first spins up a disc, but about normal after that
-doesn't come with a SATA cable or mounting screws, as per the OEM

Other Thoughts: This will need additional software to play Blu-ray format movies. Contrary to popular belief, however, there are some free solutions available. The issue relates to the encoding of Blu-ray format movies, so this is more of a software problem than a hardware problem, and I imagine that most drives will have this issue.

I have had Blu-ray drives in a couple computers that I own, but honestly I have rarely ever used them to play Blu-ray movies. In theory it's nice to have the option available, but in practice I would advise others to consider whether they really need it or not.
