2 out of 5 eggsMaybe just mine...

Pros: Looks nice and worked well until...

Cons: ...the SATA connection broke off inside the cable. Very little pressure while connecting this drive but the male end on the drive snapped off so not only is the drive ruined the cable is as well since I can't get the piece out of the cable...

Other Thoughts: It may have just been mine since I have another LG BD drive that has worked wonderfully for almost 3 years now

3 out of 5 eggsRecognizing a BD (SOLUTION?)

Pros: This is an **UPDATE** to my previous review. --------
Originally, my old XP system would not recognize the drive when a Blu-Ray disc was inserted. I did a lot of tweaking and resolved that problem. My system needed the UDFREADER download --- allowing installation of THDUDF software. My system now recognizes the BD and allows me to "explore" it. (this may resolve problems for some of the others who have written negative reviews)

Cons: Even though BDs can now be recognized on my XP system, the video continues to be upPLAYable without auxiliary software. That software is either expensive or difficult to setup. .

Other Thoughts: Despite my inability to play BDs, the disc contents are now visible to MakeMKV. (so in a roundabout way, the video can then become viewable) Before installing THDUDF, the MakeMKV software was unusable --- and video could not be obtained. (I refuse to play the inflated prices for BD-player software)

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's sposed to

Pros: Sleek, nice fit and finish, easy to find front button in the dark.

Cons: Little noisey and jittery when spinning up. Could've been a litt quieter seeing I'm paying almost twice the going price for other DVD/BDs.

4 out of 5 eggsNo complaints here

Pros: Nice low profile front bezel. Pretty quiet, at least when running DVDs.

Cons: Interesting noises during POST - most likely some sort of calibration, but I wonder if this wears it out faster?

Other Thoughts: I wish I could say I've actually tested Blu-Ray media in this drive, but I just haven't come across the stuff yet. On another note, manufacturers seem to have gotten the whole process of making optical media readers, so I guess top notch functionality is pretty much expected. This drive delivers.

4 out of 5 eggsDoesn't play Blu-Ray but great for data...

Pros: Performs as specified

Cons: Does NOT include Blu-Ray player software, which requires a third party software purchase if so desired. I have purchased Aiseesoft's Blu-Ray player software but it has been a miserable failure (I can't get the audio to work). Also, Aiseesoft's Blu-Ray player software cost me an additional $40.

You may find other third party software that performs better but from what I understand there is no native third party player for Blu-Ray. This is the farthest thing from plug and play I've experienced in my life with regard to hardware.

Nevertheless, this Blu-Ray player performs as described but when I bought it I didn't realize that it did not come with a player or that Sony was such a Facist company with their ridiculous encryption.

Other Thoughts: Just buy a Blu-Ray player that comes with player software and you will save yourself some agony.

1 out of 5 eggsBlu-ray?

Pros: It reads CDs and DVDs of all types with no issues.

Cons: If you are expecting this drive to read Blu-ray disks then prepare to be disappointed. I have tried this drive in both my Windows 7 media server and my Windows 8 gaming computer and in neither one of them will it even detect that there is a disk in the drive when placing a Blu-ray disk in it.

I completely understand that you need media software to play a Blu-ray movie but if the OS can't see anything in the drive, how would the software see anything there.

My first LG product and I am sad to say, very disappointing.
