3 out of 5 eggsBlu Ray that can't play Blu Ray?

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: Works. Able to read and write to Blu Ray and DVD

Cons: Alright, you buy a blu ray reader/burner and you assume you can put in your favorite movie and launch WMP or VLC and expect to watch right? WRONG! Blu Rays have some crazy encryption on them and the only way to have them play back is to purchase the expensive powerDVD software or to illegally rip it. This product should have came with software to allow pcs to be able to play back blu ray movies or else to me its useless!

Docking 2 eggs for that headache.

5 out of 5 eggsnot bad

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: fast as I expected it and totally plug and play
sleek almost brushed aluminum look to it with a smooth bump out for the eject button.
blue led for activity is not too bright

as this is just a drive I must give it 5 stars as it is exactly as it is listed as BUT....

Cons: no free bd playing software:(
this drive was almost $70 why cant LG get some software to go with this drive. I have to use MKV file converter and then rip the MKV file with handbrake to view BD movies. it takes a good 2 hours for the whole process to complete before you can watch the movie! plus side I can then store the BD on my NAS but some free software is needed.

Other Thoughts: I cant believe that 3 years after blu ray really took off it is still hard to watch them for free. the drive is expensive, the disks are expensive and now the software as well? come on guys this is a money pit it seems to watch blu ray on PC. I REFUSE to buy cyberlinks software to watch these movies on top of the money I already have sunk into this.

5 out of 5 eggsLet's be clear

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: Does what it says and fast.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Let me make this clear for those that don't know. The hard drive for Blueray DOES NOT mean you can play blue ray. It allows you the capability of playing blue ray with the required software. I knew this ahead of time therefore not a problem for me. Software can be bought for an extra $50 such as powerdvd etc...

4 out of 5 eggsLG 16x

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: My first BR burner, and so far, no coasters using Verbatim media. Got it for data backup. 25Gb vs. 4.3Gb on DVD's.
Price is good, media prices are coming down.

Cons: none so far?

Other Thoughts: Price is reasonable and burning a disk is no harder than with a DVD from WIN 7? Drive also reads/writes DVD or CD's, so one drive can do it all.

4 out of 5 eggsLG BD-R

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: My first BR burner, and so far, am happy with it? Hasn't burned any coaster yet? I wanted a larger backup than DVD, and this does it? 25GB vs 4GB? Only burned one BR-DL (50GB) so far, but it works. Backed up my downloaded files that I don't want to lose, and have to download again...

Cons: none so far?

Other Thoughts: I used Nero 2014 to burn. Nero, even in older versions, always seemed to have fewer 'coasters'. Lot fewer than WIn 7, for sure!

3 out of 5 eggsWorks OK, but does not come with software to play Blue-Ray

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: Works pretty good for most of what I have used it for.

Cons: I bought it mainly so I could watch Blue Ray movies on my computer, but this does not come with software to watch Blue-Ray on... It would be cheaper to buy a dedicated Blue-Ray player than buying extra software to play Blu-Ray on...

1 out of 5 eggsVery unhappy

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: Quiet and nice looking

Cons: DOESN'T PLAY BLUERAY'S. I paid the extra money for the upgraded version of this so I could use it to play and burn Blu-ray discs. When I put a Blu-ray disc in it I get a message that says Windows can't play it. It works fine with DVD format but you can get that without spending the extra money. I guess they got me.

4 out of 5 eggsFast and Quiet

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: It's fast and does everything I need it to. I've had my new computer running for about a week now, and haven't had any issues.

Cons: I can't say there's anything negative to functionality or appearance on the front of my case. Though, the button is a plastic spring integrated with the rest of the cover. If I were running a lot of CDs through this every day, I might expect it to break or wear out in a year or two.

1 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

This review is from: LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: Worked on non-ASUS computers.

Cons: Replaced a old SONY DL-DVD burner in a home built ASUS motherboard computer. Something in the drive locks up the ASUS computer. The programs would not open up and lock up the computer. It would return to normal after I unplugged the burner SATA cable. I spent hours troubleshooting with LG tech support. I connected remotely to my ASUS laptop and had the same results. It worked with a foxconn motherboard home built and HP Laptops.

Other Thoughts: Must be a conflict in one of the ASUS drivers and not worth spending any more time trouble shooting. I will use ASUS and Pioneer for my replacement choices.
