1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed.

Pros: Blu-Ray

Cons: Won't read most of my program CDs

Other Thoughts: I updated to firmware CW03 from CW01 and it still doesn't work.

It burns my blank CD/DVD/BR just fine. Just not program CD.

Movies play just fine as well.

I only use it or backup and restore and it doesn't allow me to restore programs so it gets A TOTAL OF -1 egg. It has to work with store bought programs or it's useless to me.

After 3 different F/W they should have gotten it right.

There are also two different versions of the burner. The new one has M-Disc support, but not the other one, which is the one I have.

I assume the firmware CW01 is standard and MW01 F/W is for M-Disc. At least I can only install the CW F/W

I've owned this for a year and a half and it has never worked right. I keep it around in hopes of a F/W update, but I think that ship has sailed.

I already purchased a different brand and lost it. Left it somewhere? May have to buy a different one again.

5 out of 5 eggsI Love This Drive

Pros: Does what it was created for and does it well.

Cons: Would be nice if LG could get it to work with only one USB connection not two.

Other Thoughts: I did not buy this drive from newegg but I wish I did, I payed more for it, that wont happen again I'm going to check here first! That being said I thought some info would be helpful. This drive is constructed very well and excepts a wide range of CD-r / DVD-/+r / BD-r / BD-RE media. Some people say like in Michael B.'s review that this drive wont play Blu-ray discs over USB. It has to it's a USB drive but, your monitor has to be connected to your PC via DVI / HDMI cable and both monitor and HDMI cable have to be HDCP compliant so if your monitor is connected analog (VGA) it's not going to play Blu-rays. Have fun with your new Blu-ray drive!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat portable, does everything

Pros: Does everything including M-Disc and triple layer BluRay

Cons: Not the slimmest
Requires 1.6A so needs 2 usb ports
Not the fastest
Firmware upgrade recommended (on mine - CW01->2)

Other Thoughts: A lighter, thinner one that uses one USB port might be better generally, but if you need to burn special discs, this is better.

M-Disc recommends upgrading the firmware to CW02

4 out of 5 eggsWorks on Mac but may need firmware upgrade

Pros: Haven't had a chance to fully review yet, but it seems to work OK as a reader.

Cons: Requires firmware upgrade to work on Mac. Mac firmware upgrade utility from LG doesn't work. Had to upgrade on a PC.

5 out of 5 eggsThe perfect universal portable optical drive

Pros: Basically reads/writes any type of optical disk used today. I chose this because of the M-DISK compatibility which I might use some day! The fact that you don't have to drag out a bunch of power cords and cables makes this even better!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Simple, slim, universal... what more can you ask for?

3 out of 5 eggsWon't Play Blu-Ray over USB with included software

Pros: Built well, easy to use.
Disk reader is good qulity

Cons: Included software won't play Blu-Ray over USB connection. Tried several different Blu-ray disks and got the same software issue - would only play over DVI/Digital connection. That's great except there is only a USB 2.0 connection. Some sort of LG USB accellerator is included in the software but there is no documentation.
I know there are some other Blu-Ray codecs I could have looked at but I git this to be a "plug-n-play solution for laptops and my work desktop. If it didn't play my disks, it wasn't going to work for me.
The software is a bad match for the unit.
A 5 star rating for Newegg's customer service - no hassle return.

Other Thoughts: LG has a nice product. Like most of their disk recorders/players it is well made. But the software is not really the best choice for a portable system.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall, Light, and Quiet

Pros: Small, compact, light, and quiet.
It has done all that I can ask . . . .
. . . .my perspective would be using an i7-4558u CPU
with 8gb RAM and SSD technology (buffering)
I think the is what it needs to be!

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: It has a two edged mission with me . . .
1. It provides a mobile capability for BD to my company business call-outs. (small home based computer repair)
2. Provides a BD Playback for our travel trailer entertainment system for those rainy days at the campground.
