The Samsung WriteMaster SH-S202J is a triple-format IDE drive which reads and burns DVD, dual-layer DVD, and CD format media. Dual-layer DVD's hold up to 8.5 GB of data, and are ideal for users who need to backup or share large amounts of data. The WriteMaster's 20X DVD writer takes only five and a half minutes to write 4.7GB of data to a DVD±R disc.
A Weight Balancing System that reduces drive noise; Tilt Actuator Compensation to adjust for deformed writing surfaces; and Double Optimum Power Control, which balances the laser power on the sides of the disc for enhanced writing performance. WriteMaster makes backup and duplication of your vital data quick and economical.

Install a snap
- Pros: Install is easy as can be, and device is pretty small (1" or so shorter then my older combo drive). Got driver updates from samsung website, just typed in model# and had it in less than 1 minute.
- Cons: Wrote to many dvd's and didn't get max 16x speed on single layer dvd's. Averaged around 12~13x, just wished it would get up there to save me those extra minutes.
- Other Thoughts: Can't go wrong with this burner for the price and quality. Even if its just to upgrade old drives 23 bucks ain't bad at all. I'll let you know if something comes up and repost.
Great Drive
- Pros: No need for me to repeat what others have said, but I felt like adding my review for stats sake. Quieter than most similar drives, just as cheap--cheaper than some even, but doesn't feel cheaply made. Had absolutely no problems thus far. Have grown to expect this level of compatibility and performance from optical drives, but that doesn't take away from the fact that I continue to have no issues with this Samsung drive.
- Cons: Another fake con: It's not a BluRay burner (or reader)
- Other Thoughts: 5 Stars because I simply could not find a reason to rate it down.

Works well in my Powermac G5
- Pros: Works well in iTunes, Toaster, iDVD, etc... Fast and quiet. I've burnt ~30 DVDs, only 1 of them came out bad.
- Cons: Difficult to remove the face plate.
- Other Thoughts: It turns out there's no need to remove the face plate for it to work in a powermac G5, as suggested in some websites. You only need to raise the back side a little by letting the screw heads in the back sticking out a little more.
GOOD DRIVE
- Pros: Fast ,burns everthing I have tried and no problems.It recognizes all my disks and Vista 64 had no problem reognizes it when I install it.
- Cons: Nothing really .all the drives now looks about the same and works about the same ,just some of them has better quaility control.
- Other Thoughts: I have bought about 6 samsung DVD bruners and they all still work great.I wanted a IDE drive so I could use my SATA for harddrives.I can't tell no difference in speed from my SATA drives to this IDE drive.
Great DVD Burner
- Pros: Inexpensive, reliable, good Nero suite.
- Cons: Install only the part you need out of the Nero suite, otherwise it will fill you HDD.
- Other Thoughts: This is a lot of drive for the price you paid, buy it and you won't regret it. It is very easy to upgrade firmware's with included manager.
