Pros: Great price ($23) and I caught free shipping on the unit. Fit perfectly. Recognized immediately by XP; fired right up and I'd burned the first DVD less than 6 minutes later. Not a lot of flashy logos on the front.
Cons: OEM so it came with no paperwork or disks of any kind. But, it installed and worked perfectly with XP, and there is a manual online if you really want one.
Other Thoughts: Wanted an inexpensive but decent burner to replace the OEM in our 5yo HP Pavilion. Didn't like the mixed reviews on other brands in this price range, but didn't want the extra expense of paying shipping. Held off my order for a day and, TA-DA! free shipping on Samsung. Great timing for me.

Pros: always reliable, never any problems. All software recognizes. Firmware for Samsung easy to find if needed (newer media, etc) Fast burner. Well suited for what I use these and other write master series samsung burners for; Customer builds and my personal machines, nothing fancy it just gets the job done.

Pros: Installed in a system with another SATA DVD drive used as a reader and there were no issues to speak of. I tested this drive cloning a DVD, which I read from the SATA drive I already have installed and used this drive to burn. It is a lot quieter than my other SATA DVD drive.
Cons: None really! It uses slightly more CPU resources than the SATA drive I have, but this one is faster. Other than the slimmer cable of a SATA drive, this one is actually better. I believe only hard drives see a major speed increase from SATA, especially since they can run in second generation speed.
Other Thoughts: I am actually getting better readings from this IDE drive than the SATA I already have installed. My test disc was a 4.36GB DVD-R copied movie, and here are the results:
(1) (This IDE drive) Average Read Speed: 12.17X (CAV) (SATA drive: 12.13X CAV)
Very interesting note: was faster than the SATA drive, but used about 7% more CPU usage at 8X speed. It had a 7 MB/s faster burst rate. The increased CPU usage may be due to this faster rate, but that's just a guess.

Pros: It does what it says and it's pretty quiet. I don't hear it at all, but then, the air's almost always on. It shouldn't disturb you. And it's very fast.
Cons: Can't think of any. Some might consider the lack of a bundled Nero demo to be a con, but I personally hate Nero. I use CDRTFE (CD-R Tools Frontend) for burning music and ImgBurn for burning images and data discs.
Other Thoughts: This thing is a bloody phantom. I don't hear it and it doesn't have a light. If you tell it to burn and then go do something, even if you look back at the computer, you won't be able to tell it's burning. Then the program says it's done. Very nice.
