MONTH OLD SAMSUNG IS NOW A COASTER TOASTER

Pros: Worked fine for about 3 weeks.

Cons: Started to fail part way thru the burn (at 4x mind you) about a week ago.
Now it makes instant coasters out of Verbatim discs.

Other Thoughts: Unit still rips store bought DVDs at normal rates.
I use Nero 7 but get the same results with Imageburn.
Not nice that it quit burning all together right after the first month.
For 30$, I won't bother with the hastle of exchanging it.
I am going to try changinG my luck and going back to IDE drives. This Samsung unit was bought to replace an LG SATA (GH20NS15) (bought in Dec 2008) drive that slowed down to 1X read & write after only 10 months.
I'm back to using an old reliable, antique HP 4x DVD IDE burner.
BTW, Newegg service rocks.

Good for CDs

Pros: fills a 5 1/4 slot

Cons: After I posted my review, I discovered more information. My drive is reading CDs fine, but it is endlessly attempting to read DVDs. Thought everyone should know since I see others are reporting the same thing.

Drive failed quickly

Pros: It worked great for exactly 3 weeks then stopped reading any DVD and hung the system up until I removed the media.

Cons: See above.

Other Thoughts: I have the most recent firmware available at the time.
