1 out of 5 eggsStopped reading blu-ray

Pros: worked great while it lasted.

Cons: Stopped reading blu-ray after about a year of use. Would still read dvd and cd, though.

Other Thoughts: Turned into a paperweight, as its usefulness to me without blu-ray capability was nil.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Worth It

Pros: Plays your Blu-Rays fine.

Cons: Unless you like the ambiance noise of a disk reading while your watching a movie, I'd look for something else. The noise level of the reader is horrific.
Slower read and write than expected.

2 out of 5 eggsBlueray ha

Pros: I wrote this because I saw a Samsung blue-ray internal odd on a sale mail. I gave it a 2 for ease of installation mainly. I used it to burn several dvd's shortly after it was in the case. Since then I played several dvd's on it but it really did not receive much use since I had a DVD player previously. This was the secondary drive which I decided to use for blueray only to send to a TV on the other side of the wall. Mind you this was a year later and it would do nothing. It wouldn't even read a dvd or cd. So I went looking for a firm ware update only to find that Samsung only makes external players at this point and the only download was a users manual.

Cons: Lack of use should not have been a factor it it's demise. Now it is simply a paper weight.

Other Thoughts: Love their TV's and have had good luck with their HDD's so this was really disappointing.

1 out of 5 eggsAbysmal Service

Pros: Plays DVDs and CDs

Cons: -Won't detect, let alone play Blu Ray Discs.
-All attempts to resolve the issue have resulted in a run around.

Other Thoughts: Samsung's service department refers me to SamsungODD's support. They refer me back to the main company. For some reason my serial number shows as invalid if I try to register online for a service request even though I registered the product itself with the site.

This has been the most incompetent, absurd support situation I've ever dealt with. The staff has virtually no knowledge of the products they're supporting and are stuck on scripts.

This will be the last Samsung product I ever purchase.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh.

Pros: I have successfully read BDs and burned DVDs and CDs at acceptable read/write rates.

Cons: This thing is LOUD. Also, the oversized bright blue button is distracting. What is with this fetish that hardware manufacturers have with blue LEDs?

Other Thoughts: I regret buying this, but not so much for the above reasons. We are quickly approaching an age where residential internet service will offer sufficient bandwidth to stream BD-quality video. It really isn't necessary anymore for vendors to supply drivers on CD, and once Microsoft offers Windows as a digital download service, optical drives will go the way of the floppy drive. Or, so I hope.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive!

Pros: Blu-ray.
price

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: had a gift card and decided, why not blu-ray? So far this drive has surpassed my expectations. It's great looking, quiet, and didn't cost me the price of a decent BR player! For the price, it should be a no-brainer for a HTPC. There is a ton of support for the format, and despite the belief (including my belief) that everything will eventually be digital download, it looks like we'll have one more disc format to go through before we get to that point.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Reads every Blu-ray I have set in it.
Included cyberlink software.

Cons: Included cyberlink software.

Other Thoughts: Included software is junk if you have other software already.
It is a light edition not allowing for 7.1 audio and a weak GUI.

However the hardware is what I paid for. The drive is excellent.
