SAMSUNG USB 2.0 External Slim Portable Blu-ray Writer Model SE-506BB/TSBD

Pros: It reads and burns all kinds of discs from CDs to BlueRays. I use Toast Titanium for burning FCP projects and it is great!

Cons: None for me.

Pros: Even with my 2.66 Ghz DELL (Core2 Duo) from a 2008, I have no problems burning a blu-ray (25GB) disk in around ~25 minutes or less (20+ GB of data). I use DIGISTOR 25GB 6X Blu-ray Discs, by the way.

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: It seems many are not having the kind of success, so I'm curious as to the reason. I wonder if it has to do with the discs... I am very happy with DIGISTOR blanks. No throwaways, yet.

Overall, it exceeded my expectations. I am very satisfied. But like anything, I guess your mileage may vary...

Pros: Slim. Feels sturdy. I can get all my stuff on the software, set it to burn, and concentrate on doing other things (sometimes on the computer, sometimes around the home). Keeps burning. I use it for CD, DVD, and BD and it's all satisfactory.

Cons: The software it comes with is on trial basis (or limited use), so you have to either upgrade to their full software or buy other software to burn blu-ray discs.

Other Thoughts: Sure, it can be "slow" but remember when CD burners only burned at 4x or 8x? Yeah it's not going to burn 25GB in 3 minutes now, maybe in a few years, but some need to stop being impatient and recognize the limitations of the hardware they are purchasing. My media burns at 4x and I'm okay with that. For my business (photography) I need accuracy over speed. I always use both USB cables, even though I've seen it work with a single cable...but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Pros: Burns blu-rays, I only tried 25g disks Ridata 10 packs BD-R, no coasters at all. But SLOW
Burns DVDs also. But SLOWER
Price was good on sale.

Cons: SLOW SLOW SLOW.
It takes 1- 1/2hrs to burnBDR on a new machine.
Takes longer on and old machine,
IT only burns good at 2x.
Slow Verify also.

Other Thoughts: Remember that the slower it writes the chances of less errors.
thats probably why I have had no coasters.
Verbatim disk may be the problem.

Software and OS setup may be important, for to work properly.
I have had no problems on any machine using ImgBurn
older machines are slower yet.
Remember SOME Anti.V. programs slow down computers Immensely

Pros: It burns 4.5 single layer DVD's Ok

Cons: It doesn't burn anything else.

Other Thoughts: Already left a detail explaination of what is wrong with this drive, no curses, no violation of terms. Curious as to why it wasn't posted....

2nd attempt; drive won't work with DL +R, only DL -R (unlike what it claims) and DL -R are ridiculously expensive so no 8.5 GB burns with this drive (Verbatim, Sony, etc, doesn't matter).

But the unaccemptable part is my drive takes over 7 hours to burn a 10GB Bluray...on both a Mac & a PC, so its not the computer, its the broken drive. Samsung doesn't care. Its customer support is a joke.

Don't buy this unless you like gambling.

Pros: Not DOA

Cons: Want to wait about 7 hours while your BR is verified? Then this is the product for you.

While it appears to burn 4.7GB DVD ok. Everything else is a joke. Once you get in home & try to to burn a 8.5 dl+r disc, you find it doesn't work. Get on the internet & learn, despite Samsung's claim to the contrary, it doesn't burn +r. Want a Verbatim DL -R? 4 bucks a pop. So 8.5GB burning is pretty much off the table.

OK, but it burns BR, so cool. Sure, if you want to listen to the steady rhythm of the burners head jumping back & forth for over 7 hours....SEVEN hours, for 10GB burn no less. Clearly this is wrong.

Can't be right & you stupidly didn't burn any BR until after NewEgg's 30 day return policy was up. So give Samsung a call to work it out?

Keep dreaming. If you want to spend over an hour working through their tech line just to told it isn't their fault, then, again, this is the product for you.

Other Thoughts: I should have not been surprised. This is my 3rd major Samsung purchase (a TV which has been fine, the Galaxy s2 which has been returned over 4 times in 3 months because it is a piece of junk, & now this burner).

There will not be a fourth Samsung purchase, EVER. Their customer support is non-existence. Once they have you money, goodbye. I have no clue how they plan to survive long term if they treat their customers with such contempt and will not stand behind their products.

Imagine if you were treated like this buying a car; "well 5 out a 100 of our new cars on the lot won't run after you buy it, but after making you spend hours explaining to our "service" dept how you turned the key and the engine wouldn't turn over, we will send you a "slightly used" car for a service fee that is 25% of what you paid for a new car."

Yeah, they have laws against that, but not against tech companies selling you defective junk & then thumbing their nose at you for being such a sucker.

I understand & can live with a small percentage of their shipped products not working but to ignore their customers after the fact is just a stupid way to do business (I will be sharing my Samsung experience with everyone I know).

Companies that have sold me something broken BUT took care of me after the fact; Crucial, Gigabyte, Sony, LG, & Apple. I will continue to buy from them & recommend them. Hope my $90 was worth it Samsung.

My experience with them with my phone should have scared me off, I was a fool. A fool who paid $90 for a external 4.5GB x6 burner. Please don't be like me and just avoid this burner like the plague.

Pros: Im using MacGo blue ray software and this drive to play blue rays on my mac and its working great. It plays everything that I have tried.

Cons: none so far.
