This slim line is usually used in laptop computers. Sometimes they fix an outside rim around the DVD writer to match the outside of the laptop -- this you can do yourself by taking it off the old drive and fixing it to this DVD writer.
I used this drive in a Dell Optiplex 760 SFF and it works out of the box.

Is it blu ray compatible?

I havent tried to use a blueray on this player. Reasoning would be the format of a blueray and a dvd are totally different, because of this I would assume you wont be abke to use the blueray on this type or any type of dvd player. I would suggest a blueray player as they are backwards compatible.

I need a cdrom drive for my Acer 3680, will this fit do you know?

Hello,

This is difficult to answer without knowing the exact specs of your current Acer laptop computer or what type of DVD drive you currently have.

My advice would be to carefully remove the DVD drive from the Acer laptop. This is normally done by removing a small screw underneath, in the back where the DVD drive is located. If you look at the bottom of the laptop, and then from where the DVD drive is located, there should be a small screw back about the length of the drive unit. Remove that and just pull the DVD drive out.

When the drive is out, check to see if it is a SATA connector or an IDE connector. If the drive is a SATA (and it will be a different type of SATA connector than on hard drives -- actually, the power connecter will be smaller) then this drive should definitely work with you laptop. If the connecter is not SATA (ie. you see pins on the back of it) then it will not work.

Although I'm not familiar with the exact notebook model, these SLIM drives are pretty standard.  The instructions for removing it are on the last page of Appendix A in the manual - there's just a single screw to remove.  Maybe you can take it out and examine exact dimensions.

Question 5

I have tried for hours to find a driver for this DVD Writer. It is not showing up in Device Manager or under Computer. Samsung does not even list this model on the download page. Please can someone point me in the right direction?  Sorry first post went in answers instead of here.

This is a standard SATA DVD device and should not require any special drivers. I have not installed it in my laptop yet because my old drive started working after I bought this one.

Which operating system are you using? I would expect any modern Windows or Linux distribution to automatically sense and be able to use the drive.
