4 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine

Pros: The idea is simple - take a laptop drive and sell it separately in its own plastic shell.

Got it for two reasons:
1. External drive for Asus T100. Works great - Win8 sees it fine. Reading is fine, haven't tried writing yet. Didn't need provided drivers.

2. Bring-up of new desktop build. Didn't want to buy a whole DVD drive just for that step, so used this. The new build booted right off power-up on the Win7 64b CD in this drive. Didn't even need to tell BIOS to boot off it. Super smooth.

Runs entirely off USB, including power.

Cons: Not the fastest drive I've ever encountered - probably because it has to keep a lid on power consumption since it powers off the USB. As noted above, it was used to load up a new blank desktop build and more speed would have been nice, but not a big issue.

Also, it choked on one game install disk, but I haven't tried that disc in other drives to isolate the issue. Also, I never used the driver disc provided in the package, which could also be the issue.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfect

Pros: I needed a external DVD drive for up stairs, I run the computer cables from down stairs, to keep it quiet up stairs. I am using a High Quality USB 2.0 cable Male to Female 6ft cable to device Roswill High quality cable. Now I do not need to run down stairs each time I put in a CD or DVD.

Cons: I first tried to hook up the cables from the front USB ports and no luck, than tried the back USB on the motherboard, and it worked perfect. Front USB ports had lower voltage or amps and device would not work. So If you have a problem using the front USB ports use the ones installed on the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: If you are using a extension cable use the ports on the motherboard

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Works as advertised. I've used this with debian-based Linux distros, BSD, and Windows.

Cons: None that I've come across.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a fairly inexpensive external CD/DVD burner that requires no additional AC power, I can recommend this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need, at a fair price.

Pros: So far I've burned a couple of dvd's and installed operating systems of end points that do not have cd/dvd-rw drives.
Have had no issues what so ever.

Cons: It's a little on the slow side, but does not constitute to subtract an egg. As long as the job is done and I didn't spend a fortune, I'm happy. Great tool to have if you work in Information Technology.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent DVD burner

Pros: 1) only requires 1 USB port on your computer to power-up and read/write
2) I already burned 30+ DVDs without problem. no coaster.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Great burner. I had this for 3 months and it burns 30+ discs without problem. This replaces another burner from another vendor which only lasted 10+ burns.
