1 out of 5 eggsdisfunctional (on arrival)

Pros: Small and lightweight design

Cons: DOES NOT WORK
Bought off newegg business and got it as a backup for a server with no optical drives. First opened after 3 months sitting on a shelf and it just doesn't work, it shows the drive but has read errors, write errors and disconnects. I tried a different usb cable as well as a different PC, but it's the drive itself.
I would expect better QC from a company like Samsung.

1 out of 5 eggsCould be better

Pros: Light, fast CD/DVD drive. Until it stopped working, no issues.

Cons: Lasted 1 year, 3 months. Apparently the female power/data connector on CD/DVD drive is either glued on or a stamp fit. Noticed the power to the drive was coming on and off, lifted drive and it was dead. Opened case to find the female connector from drive rattling around inside drive. This drive was not mis-handled, it sat on a desk. In my opinion, a design flaw. Looking for another brand, hopefully with better cable connectors.

3 out of 5 eggsLess than Stellar

Pros: I am sure this drive will be fine for transferring files.

Cons: This drive cannot play a movie without pausing repeatedly to buffer/load.

Likely will struggle to burn a disc due to the stalls.

3 out of 5 eggsbest bang for your buck... I guess

Pros: Cheap and comes with some decent software

Cons: Very noisy, and the disc locks into place, so be sure the disc is in the tray correctly, unlike most optical drives that you just place the cd on the tray, then slide it into the computer and it's ready to go, this drive needs the disc to be locked in place with three separate locks, if this is not properly in place, it will possibly damage the unit or disc.

Other Thoughts: for the price this does more then enough, with the decline of optical drives I see no need to spend more on better quality for the amount of use it will get.

5 out of 5 eggsUseful IT tool

Pros: Works just as expected. Haven't had a laptop or desktop not recognize it so far. Design is small and light enough to fit easily in my tech bag.

Cons: I prefer micro USB since they are everywhere, This drive uses mini USB. However, the pictures show that, and I knew it before purchasing.

The housing is plastic and rather thin. I wouldn't put it in the large pocket of my tech bag that holds heavier items. I'm sure it would easily get damaged from banging around too much.

Other Thoughts: I use this to work on my client's laptops and desktops, often to do reformatting. It;s just easier than dealing with some of these slow PATA disk drives that take forever to recognize windows boot or recovery disk.

Works great with laptops that don't have a disk drive. So far, I've only used this drive with Windows machines.

Overall I'm glad I bought it. It's fairly priced, useful, and works.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY IT

3 out of 5 eggsAdvertised incorrectly, does not use USB 3.0

Pros: Work fine on Windows 7
Powered by a single USB connection

Cons: Listed as USB 3.0 but the device does not use a USB 3.0 connection. (It will work with a USB 3.0 port because the port is backwards compatible)

Other Thoughts: Slim, only takes 1 USB port to power and use it.
It is slower then an internal optical drive.

5 out of 5 eggsNo need for an Apple

Pros: Slim and light. Much cheaper that the Apple 'Super' drive.
Only thing super about the Apple product is the price.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: The Apple drives are overpriced for what you get. You can purchase 2 of these for the cost of a super drive.
Worked right out of the box no issues. Burned 2 discs without errors.
