4 out of 5 eggsbare DVD/CD burner

This review is from: SAMSUNG USB 2.0 Slim External DVD Writer Model SE-208DB/TSRS

Pros: Cheap, quite, works

Cons: software is lacking. I can not get it to burn a cd with different media, not sure it it is Windows 8.1 or the software. I am going to try different software.

Other Thoughts: Burns Dvds great, does not care about the media.

4 out of 5 eggsQuick and Simple Drive

This review is from: SAMSUNG USB 2.0 Slim External DVD Writer Model SE-208DB/TSRS

Pros: Useful Drive. Did exactly what I needed it to do. Have an ultrabook with no disk drive - needed to get something portable and quick. This did the trick.

Cons: No cons - would have loved a usb-micro connection (as i have a lot of those cables from phones) instead of the mini.

4 out of 5 eggsChugs right along

This review is from: SAMSUNG USB 2.0 Slim External DVD Writer Model SE-208DB/TSRS

Pros: Plug and play works well in Windows (7 & 8.1), Ubuntu and Debian. Inexpensive.

Cons: Plastic casing is not very sturdy and the drive is somewhat slow. Cable is not very long.

Other Thoughts: Decent little drive. It's held up for about 4 months so far with little to no coddling. The cheap plastic design doesn't scream longevity, but I don't feel bad about tossing it into a pack of misc stuff either.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks.

This review is from: SAMSUNG USB 2.0 Slim External DVD Writer Model SE-208DB/TSRS

Pros: Works, does exactly what it's supposed to. No compatability issues with Windows 7 or 8.

Cons: Slow, and the software that comes with it is awful. Couldn't find firmware updates for it anywhere.

5 out of 5 eggsSlow but gets you there

This review is from: SAMSUNG USB 2.0 Slim External DVD Writer Model SE-208DB/TSRS

Pros: Bought this for my Acer notebook. It's plug and play and was seen by the notebook without a problem. Small and lite weight if you need to carry it around with you. The red color is OK and easy to see the light inside when writing to a disc.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: When you pair this CD/DVD writer, being it's a USB 2.0 with a notebook like mine (Acer 5V-131) with a slow CPU it takes a while to read or write too. But that is something I knew about before I bought the writer. Right now I am backing up my notebook using this writer. My guess is that it will take at least 3 hours (4 disc's) to finish the job. But I don't see me using this writer very much. It's still nice to have when and if it's needed. I also thought about using one of my extra 5.25 DVD writers and putting that into a exterier enclosure. But the price would be a lot more then the cost of this portable writer. Plus the speed would be the same.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

This review is from: SAMSUNG USB 2.0 Slim External DVD Writer Model SE-208DB/TSRS

Pros: Works great.
No issues in the past 4 months since I've owned this.
It reads some scratched disks that my internal DVD Burner won't read.

Cons: No Cons

Other Thoughts: This is not USB3.0. The cable and the connector on the drive are both USB2.0
I was not expecting it to be USB3, so no complaints. USB2 provides all the data and power that a DVD Burner needs. USB3 would be useless 'cause it's not needed at all.

The included cable is just a regular USB cable. I've used other USB cables that work fine. If you're having issues, that's generally 'cause your computing device isn't providing enough power through the USB ports. In that case, I'd recommend you try a different USB port or buy a 2USB to 1USB extension cable, which would draw power from 2 USB ports. They're generally only a dollar or two.

I have had no issues with this and my Desktop and a Netbook that I've used it on.
