5 out of 5 eggsSlow but gets you there

Pros: Bought this for my Acer notebook. It's plug and play and was seen by the notebook without a problem. Small and lite weight if you need to carry it around with you. The red color is OK and easy to see the light inside when writing to a disc.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: When you pair this CD/DVD writer, being it's a USB 2.0 with a notebook like mine (Acer 5V-131) with a slow CPU it takes a while to read or write too. But that is something I knew about before I bought the writer. Right now I am backing up my notebook using this writer. My guess is that it will take at least 3 hours (4 disc's) to finish the job. But I don't see me using this writer very much. It's still nice to have when and if it's needed. I also thought about using one of my extra 5.25 DVD writers and putting that into a exterier enclosure. But the price would be a lot more then the cost of this portable writer. Plus the speed would be the same.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Works great.
No issues in the past 4 months since I've owned this.
It reads some scratched disks that my internal DVD Burner won't read.

Cons: No Cons

Other Thoughts: This is not USB3.0. The cable and the connector on the drive are both USB2.0
I was not expecting it to be USB3, so no complaints. USB2 provides all the data and power that a DVD Burner needs. USB3 would be useless 'cause it's not needed at all.

The included cable is just a regular USB cable. I've used other USB cables that work fine. If you're having issues, that's generally 'cause your computing device isn't providing enough power through the USB ports. In that case, I'd recommend you try a different USB port or buy a 2USB to 1USB extension cable, which would draw power from 2 USB ports. They're generally only a dollar or two.

I have had no issues with this and my Desktop and a Netbook that I've used it on.

5 out of 5 eggsUse included USB cable

Pros: Small, light, works. Comes with USB cable.

Cons: May not work with other USB cables

Other Thoughts: I already had a micro-USB cable, so I tossed the included cable, still nicely sealed in its bag, into my box of cables. Both desktop and laptop could see the DVD Writer but could not recognize discs. I rebooted my computers and checked firmware level on the DVD Writer, without success. Then I used the slightly heavier duty USB cable included...and it works fine. I was too clever by half, using an old cable, which is generally functional, but may not provide the right power. And the box does say to use the included USB cable. Save time: follow instructions.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent external DVD drive in that it does everything its supposed to and it does it well.

Cons: Not true USB 3.0 and shouldn't be advertised as being so.
