Other Thoughts: I don't know where people are going wrong with this thing? Power consumption is not an issue I only had to plug in one USB, and as for burning mine burns fine and I've done like 20 disks already.

Pros: Inexpensive, quiet, works on multiple machines, PC and Mac.
I purchased this drive to install programs to an HP netbook, an Asus Eee computer, and as a general repair tool for systems with broken or missing CD's. In over a years use, and many different machines and platforms it has always worked. Plug it in and go.

I have been working with computers since the mid 1980's and have been an IT Manager for the last 12 years, and I do recommend this device.

Cons: Did not come with an external power supply, must use 2 USB ports.

Pros: -Small and Easy to set up
- It does what its made for

Cons: NO AC ADAPTER..... All it came with was a USB Y Cable.

Other Thoughts: NO NOT BUY IF you need a AC power adapter, but if you can spare 2 USB ports then this will work.

Pros: Inexpensive CDRW/DVD writer in laptop size. The USB power eliminates having to carry around a transformer.

Cons: Glossy black finish scratches extremely easily, but scratches do not affect its performance.

Pros: Performs as advertised, extremely inexpensive!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: 'Rosewill' logo isn't too pretty on the top. Maybe something more updated and technological, or just some 'R' emblem...?

Not really a 'con' just a thought...

Pros: Great for what it is, a cheap external optical drive. I use it on the rare occasion that I need to look at a cd/dvd and I burn various linux ISOs and mp3 discs for my car. My netbook didn't come with an optical drive and this fit the bill. I've been using it for six months with Linux Mint Debian Edition and I've only made a couple of coasters.

Also, no need for external power.

Cons: The outer shell seems to scratch very easily which kinda sucks considering how well I take care of my electronics.

Pros: Small compact no power adaptors to fool with I use this on my eee laptop

Pros: I bought this to go with one of those Foxconn netbooks that Newegg had and by the way the netbook is great too. I've been using this every day and it works great for me playing movies and burning DVDs. If one of those netbooks can power it then anything can by the way.

Cons: None that I can think of and I always try to knit pick stuff.

Other Thoughts: I don't know why all of these other people are having trouble unless they got ones from a bad batch. I'm going to order two more after I'm done with this review.

Pros: Cheap, works great with Ubuntu and Windows alike. Plug in, wait for driver installation, then drag/drop/burn. Not very loud while burning discs.

Cons: wasnt free?

Other Thoughts: The brand might have a bad reputation, but the few things I purchased from them hasnt been bad. The multi purpose card reader works great, and this hasnt died on me in two months...so if you want a cheap, reliable product, buy it!

Pros: OK..Quiet..

Cons: Power Hog..Need to supply power to drive to operate.
USB ports on laptop & pc could not supply enough power.

Other Thoughts: Look elsewhere for a true USB CD/DVD Burner

This unit should get all of its power directly from the USB port. I would recommend trying another usb port to see if it still does the same thing. Also, try it with another system to see if it works.
