1 out of 5 eggssounded nice but..... fell short of the promise

Pros: Small , Compact, USB3

Cons: Died in less than 45 days, outside of the 30 days to get an RMA from Newegg, so I am fighting with the site over at Rosewill to get an RMA started for it.

Other Thoughts: When I first got it, burned ~10 DVD's no problem. Now it just makes coasters, still reads fine, but blows all burns writing the lead in, DVD, CD or Blueray

1 out of 5 eggsStopped working after 60 days

Pros: Nice drive easily installed. Worked great. USB 3.0. Burns and reads all I put in it so far.

Cons: Funky short cable not alot of slack to position.
Quit working suddenly. No longer recognized by system, if I reconnect drive system no longer recognized drive and does not shut down, or if connected while booting screen goes blank and freezes system. System boots fine when is disconnect drive.
Not much on Rosewill support page other than model number and photo.

Other Thoughts: Great drive for the value after rebate, but did not last long. Have a support inquire in for drive, hopefully Rosewill will make right. Giving them chance to respond and hopefully amicably and graciously resolve issue.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need it to

Pros: Ads a Blu-ray burner to your PC as quickly as you can connect the USB cable. ( Windows 7 )

Does what I need it to and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0

Cons: Only Con so far is after every burn, the tray opens no matter what options are set in ImgBurn.

Not a real issue and I haven't really dug into finding out the proper settings yet either.

Other Thoughts: I was worried about the random disconnects people were reporting here but realized after reading several complaints of the issue, it's as simple as making sure the cable doesn't get moved or bumped.

Skipped the included software and used ImgBurn, simply extracted the contents of the file into it's own folder. No install required.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Hardware. Cyberlink software has issues.

Pros: Slimline. No need for external power. Burns DVDs and Blu Rays with ease at decent speeds. Quiet drive.

Cons: Cyberlink software is just awful. Not only it is an OEM version, but it is 3 generations behind retail (PowerDVD 10 versus 13 that is available in retail). Software that is enclosed on the enclosed CD needs to be immediately updated after installation, or you will not get BluRay playback. I installed the Cyberlink suite and attempted to download a patch from Cyber link website. I would get to about 99% of my 137 MB download and then my connection would time out. This went on for about a day. Eventually, once I got the patch installed, the BluRay playback worked OK on Power DVD 10. You cannot simply install one of the three software programs included (PowerDVD10, Power 2 Go 8 and PowerBackup). You are stuck with the whole suite or nothing, to the tune of over half of a Gigabyte of my SSD space. When I complained to Rosewill technical support they suggested that I “may need to search for free software in order to go ahead and obtain the necessary features for it to work. We apologize but the OEM does not imply the latest". Cyberlink turns its OEM software into an advertising billboard. Since I installed the suite I constantly get nagging popups to “upgrade to the latest version.”

Other Thoughts: I definitely recommend the hardware. Software is not so great. Be ready to get frustrated with software if you choose to use it. Better yet, if you have your own BluRay player software, don't even touch the enclosed CD.

1 out of 5 eggs2 DOA

Pros: cheap

Cons: poor quality control
slow
REQUIRES you to use the Cyberlink Power2Go to burn anything
Cant' burn DVD/Blu-ray (first one)
Can't burn Blu-ray (replacement)

Other Thoughts: I purchased this drive for my Asus laptop w/o an optical drive. Unfortunately, I forgot that you need USB 3.0 port to use this drive. So I decided to use it as a second Blu-ray burner until I replace my laptop next year.

The first drive wouldn't burn either DVD or Blu-ray using the provided software (Power2Go). So I sent it back and got a replacement. The replacement was able to burn/verify DVD just fine, but couldn't burn Blu-ray at neither 6X nor 2X. If it was able burn atleast at 2x, I would have kept it. I burned 7 Blu-ray disks on ASUS desktop blu-ray burner (BW-12B1ST) using the same media without creating a single coaster, so it's not a media problem.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value - Works well

Pros: There's not much to say. This Blu-ray seems to be fast works well on both PC & Mac. (I'm not using the included software.)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Minor nitpick: I purchased this with a mail in rebate. I'm not a fan of rebates. I would rather have a fair upfront price.

4 out of 5 eggsNice & portable BD writer

Pros: Buck for buck after MIR, this drive is a steal. After using it a few times, I am pretty impressed with it. So far I've burned 3 BD's at 6x (Phillips badged CMCMAG-BA5-000), absolutely no issues. Played several retail BD movies just fine. Truly PnP.

Sleek aluminum chassis, and as some others have posted, this is a Rosewill branded version of the MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ260 drive.

Not using the CyberLink s/w (never been a fan of it), but other than that, I'm happy with my purchase. Hope it lasts!

Cons: None to date.

4 out of 5 eggsDrive is fine. Cyberlink software stinks

Pros: Drive works.
Low price.

Cons: Terrible software that constantly spams you to upgrade.
Shot USB cord.

Other Thoughts: I bought this mainly for the price and the convenience of having an external DVD/BD drive. The included Cyberlink software is awful.Tried to play Cars 2 Blu-Ray and it kept restarting. Updating to the latest version of PowerDVD 10 didn't help.

Cyberlink likes to constantly bug you to upgrade to version 11. Fat chance of that happening when the playback software can't even handle a popular Blu-Ray title.
