Rosewill USB 3.0 External Slim Aluminum 6x Blu-ray Writer Model RDED-12001 BDXL Support w/ Full Cyberlink PowerDVD

Pros: Reads every disc I've given it.

Cons: Doesn't burn anything

Other Thoughts: Win 7 Pro. My RDED-12001 won't even burn audio or data CD's, nevermind DVD's or Blu-Rays.

Pros: I can't find the serial number for the media suite 10

Cons: if we can;' install this software, why did it come with the external ....

Pros: It's slim, external, & USB 3.0. Burns disks just fine and plays back Blu-Ray movies to my PC perfectly.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I use Nero software, but I'm sure the bundled software would work just fine.

I didn't need to use the extra USB connection for power on my desktop, but I suspect it's needed if your USB controller doesn't provide enough juice.

It never stopped working, but on my ASMedia USB 3.0 controller I'd periodically get a dropped USB sound from the PC consistently. I moved it to my USB 3.0 Intel controller port and this issue stopped happening. I didn't put this in the "cons" section because the issue could very well be the controller and not this drive.

Pros: While I was installing the software that came with this external drive, during the installtion, it asked me for the CD-Key

Cons: I look for everywhere in the box, or the introudtion, I can;t find it, the serial number.

Pros: Plugged right into my Windows 8 Pro PC and worked. Enough said!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: A longer cable would be nice, but the one provided is perfect for traveling. Buy a USB 3.0 extension cable (not a USB 2.0 extension) when you order this if you're using it on a desktop system.

Pros: It is a slimline Blu-Ray drive.

Cons: Same speed as my USB 2.0 Samsung drive.

Other Thoughts: This was a complete waste of money as I had the Samsung USB 2.0 Blu-Ray writer. As it turns out the Rosewell is transferring data at the same data rate and the USB 3.0 Interface gives no performance increase. This was a waste of money and regret my purchase.

Pros: Cool black aluminum case.

Cons: Works sometimes. I've tried three different brands software, same results. Thought it might be the brand media... nope. Can reboot and get it to work... sometimes.

Other Thoughts: Now I know Newegg.com owns Rosewill brand and I haven't had any problems out of Rosewill products. This burner changed that, big time. Functions intermittently, sometimes I can reboot and get it to work. Changed software and media, no dice. Ran test on drive itself and it failed. Would return it but I've already sent in my rebate forms with the UPC. Live and Learn I guess...

Pros: Sleek design, nice aluminum case, bought it to go with my Dell XPS 12.

Cons: Disconnects randomly, I had read in another comment it has something to do with the USB 3.0 connector. This is very annoying as I am installing a program and then it disconnects randomly in the middle of an installation or watching a blu ray.

Other Thoughts: Please fix the issue that causes this and send update cables or whatever to the people who are encountering this issue.

1. Make sure you have the latest windows update installed (This is a must)
2. Connect to a USB 3.0 port directly coming out of the motherboard on the back of your case.
3. Connect the USB 2.0 port for additional power to the device
4. Recognized under device manager
5. Test on another computer

Pros: I was reluctant to go in a little extra for a Blu-Ray external for my netbook.
Until I saw a full version of Cyber-Link Media Suite 10 was included.
The software alone is worth more than the price.

Cons: Wish the connector to the Blu-Ray was not proprietary.

Other Thoughts: Spend the extra 20-30 bucks you'd end up spending at someplace like Wally World and get something you can use.

Pros: I like the size and design of the case. It just works under W7. The included software works fine.
So far I have only used it for reading disks, which is the main reason I purchased it. My Lenovo X1 Carbon does not have a DVD/BR/CD drive.

The previously mentioned USB connector does not appear to be a problem. It fits snuggly. I have had no issues with it coming loose.
The supplied cord is plenty long, although a bit stiff.
You can replace it with a different USB-3 A to type B cord, if you like.

Cons: It is a bit pricy, but was the best one I could find, in the compact USB-3 category.
