5 out of 5 eggsGood, solid drive.

Pros: Better build quality than the average drive. This one wont die on you the day after its warranty expires. Fast and reliable, a ton of formats, its the best thing you can get before entering Blu-Ray.

Cons: A little expensive, even for a SATA drive. But thats the price you pay for above average quality.
Only 2MB cache, but that doesnt seem to affect its burn speeds, even on DL.

Other Thoughts: If you want to move away from PATA and have a well made drive that lasts a long time, this is the one.

Pros: Yet another high quality Linux-friendly burner from Plextor. I'm not sure what else to say. It's a Plextor, you can't really do much better than that.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No coasters yet, works with Vista 64bit flawlessly, does what I need it to do, I have used this burner heavily and it hasn't failed me yet.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Use some common sense, there are no cables or software in the picture, it says OEM, so don't whine and complain when there are no cables or software in the box! You can order a SATA cable from Newegg for a couple of dollars, so just include it in your cart when you order.

4 out of 5 eggsWish I'd read the reviews first

Pros: Quiet, relatively fast, reliable. OEM model comes without cables or software. For only five bucks more, Newegg offers the retail version which does include cables and software. Still a good buy, since I've got dozens of SATA cables and a recent version of NERO.

Cons: Won't burn CD-G's. No cables or software with OEM version.

Other Thoughts: Wish I'd read the reviews before I hit the final 'Submit Order' button. I based my purchase decision on the experience I had with my PX-716's, which are of EXCELLENT quality and will burn anything you throw at it. But I needed a SATA drive and this seemed like the logical choice.

Wish I'd just bought a PATA-to-SATA adapter for the PX-716's which are all still going strong. Most are SATA I, but that's more than fast enough for a DVD-R/W drive.

5 out of 5 eggsOEM

Pros: other thoughts

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Shinny77 OEM means just the piece. When it is packaged for retail it normally does include the cables.
Just Food for thought

5 out of 5 eggsPlextor results

Pros: Plug and go!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If it looks like a Pioneer, sounds like a Pioneer and burns like a Pioneer, it must be a Pioneer... The point is, it worked right out of the box, was instantly recognized by Windows XP and burned everything I threw at it flawlessly... As far as I know, it does what a Plextor does: deliver.

2 out of 5 eggsDVD BUrner

Pros: Excellent Company Brand

Cons: Had to return for replacement in less than a month. Had burned about 5 DVD's and it quit about 3/4 of the way into another disk burn. Would not even recognize whenever a pre-recorded DVD was put into the burner.

Other Thoughts: I know Plextor is a good brand, must have received a defective burner. I will let you know after I receive the replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsgood SATA burner

Pros: It's a SATA DVD/CD burner; a Plextor drive

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Warning: You are buying the drive only. There are no cables or instructions. I have to figure out what the jumpers are for.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent DL burner, great ripper

Pros: Reasonably quiet (can limit speed for DVD vid play for even more quiet). SATA - no more having to mess with device manager to make sure the DMA mode is right. Reliable burner with Verbatim discs. IMHO, best audio ripper bar none, apparently due to very robust error correction - fast with no glitches, even with less than pristine discs.

Cons: A bit spendy unless you get one with a rebate (I didn't, and used it to replace a perfectly good 716 because I wanted DL for my HTPC. Plus I bought it 8 months ago when it was newly released.

Other Thoughts: I've been using Plextors since they were SCSI with CD caddys, and have always been happy. I will not be happy if what I've been reading about them getting out of the high end biz is true.
