1 out of 5 eggsCyberlink Power DVD

Pros: Actual unit is great.

Cons: Cyberlink Power DVD 8 is absolutley the worst and I've been dealing with it for three years.

Other Thoughts: I must rate this as a bad purchase unless you are going to go out and spend another hundred bucks on other software. I have been updating, patching, and reinstalling the software until it drove me to buy a free standing Blu-Ray player. I have other BD Rom players built into computers and they also eventually will not play Blu-Ray's with Cyberlink Power DVD. Cyberlink wants that UPGRADE money.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat alternative.

Pros: Easy to install. Doesn't weigh much. Solid price (when bought originally). Works dandy.

Cons: Cheap material makes it nerve racking if it actually ends up falling one day.

Other Thoughts: I recommend this product, but not at the price it's at right now. It was a great alternative for my Asus notebook, but a bit outdated now.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfectly After 1 Year

Pros: Has handled every Blu-Ray I've played in the last year (including tons of probably roughed-up Netflix Blu-Rays), even using the included old PowerDVD version (still need to use the updater to get the "firmware" updates from Cyberlink). No noise when idle or during playback. No video/audio lag at all (ATI 4350 chipset). Crystal clear, razor sharp on my 40" LCD. It's rare that I have zero technical issues with gear, but this is one solid product. Looks great too in my HTPC setup.

Cons: None at all. There is no lag even though this is USB as opposed to SATA.

1 out of 5 eggsDied on me after only 6 months

Pros: Not much that I can think of. It's a plain vanilla drive without any unique advantages.

Cons: Drive died at about 6 months. BIOS no longer recognizes it and the door won't open. Emailed tech support as directed by their web site to get an RMA and got a canned response saying I should call instead. I called and waited 15 minutes for someone to handle the call and then gave up. Don't know which is worse: a shoddy product or shoddy product support.

Other Thoughts: I've owned a few Plextor drives in my time. This will be the last one. I don't need any more paper weights.

5 out of 5 eggssweet drive

Pros: quiet and works flawless and it frees up a sata port.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: why are people posting reveiws when they dont own the product. when i read a review its because some one owns the product and have tried it. not what they think it will do.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: External Blu Ray player that works and sits near my monitor for very easy access(I keep my computer in my closet to reduce noise). Price.

Cons: Lag... Compared to my internal blu ray player this one lags when I have a blu ray in it. Every 20 minutes or so the video freezes for about 10 seconds and then catches up to the audio.

very loud when reading or pre reading.

Other Thoughts: I wonder if it lags due to being connected via a usb port rather than sata like the internal player... But there is definately some lag being caused by a bottleneck somewhere in the information path.

5 out of 5 eggsPlextor USB External Blu-ray Player

Pros: This drive works very well with my Blu-ray dvd's. Haven't tried normal dvd's but I assume they work just as well. Don't want to wear out the lens so I play blu-ray on this player only. All you need to do is just plug in the usb and power adapter and it's ready to go. It has an on/off switch on the back. A lot of people complain about Powerdvd 8 but it works flawless for me. I also use Powerdvd 7. Some dvd's you can use the mouse and some you can only access the special features, audio setup, etc. with the keyboard only. Could be the player or the dvd. Not a problem at all because the dvd will still play. Overall, this is my first blu-ray player and I love it. Would recommend to someone who is looking for a blu-ray player.

Cons: Attracts a lot of finger prints.

Other Thoughts: P.S. this product comes with a lot of programs, I only installed Powerdvd 8. This can also be a result why people are having problems with Powerdvd. Could be the other programs are conflicting with one another. It comes with 2 cd's and I only used the one with Powerdvd on it and chose to install the player only.

I would recommend checkout the Plextor website to see if your computer is able to play blu-ray's. Anyone who is having problems with this could be that one of their computer components isn't able to handle blu-ray's.

5 out of 5 eggsPLEXTOR USB External BD Combo Super Multi Drive

Pros: This drive works just as advertised. I would recommend it to any one who is looking for a External Blu-ray dive.

Cons: none so far..

Other Thoughts: I had to do a little upgrading to my computer so if you have an older one you might want to check the specs to make sure yours will do the trick... Other than that it does the job and is a good buy..

3 out of 5 eggsHope someone finds this useful

Pros: N/A - Only gave a 3 egg rating in order to submit this review. I have no idea whether or not this particular unit is any good.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Don't own this unit. However, I have purchased a half dozen mb's and so far none of them will play blurays. They all play DVD's. Tried 2 Bluray players and 2 different OP's (XP pro and Vista Ultimate both 32 and 64 bit versions. My current system: AMD Phenom II 965 Black 3.40GHz, 8G ddr3 1066, FSB 2600MHz Hyper Transport (5200 MT/s), 2 WD Raptor HD's, NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT, and PowerDVD 9. Neither LG or Pioneer will answer. They sell players/burners and that's all they do. All drivers, software and BIOS is/are up to date. Could it be the chipsets? I don't plan on purchasing any more MB's or Blu-Ray players until I get an answer or figure it out myself. Regular DVD's will have to suffice until that time. It is hard for me to believe I purchased two bad Players/Burners. These are the MB's I have tried:
ASRock A790GMH/128M
ASUS M4A78 Plus
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe *tried this one with AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 6400+)
