5 out of 5 eggsPLEXTOR all in one

Pros: -Nice looking design

-Easy to install/setup
-Works Great
-Uses Sata Cable(included)
-Included Roxio Creator 10 Software
-All in one burner (CD/DVD-R/RW/ROM) w/ fast speeds

Cons: -A bit noisy
-Should of came with light scribe for the price you pay

Other Thoughts: If this came with light scribe and was a bit quieter it would be a great product for the price($50).

4 out of 5 eggspx-850sa

Pros: I bought a new computer, and this equipment came with it, but I went to burn a DVD and got right down to the end, and would not finish, "Warning, Cannot complete Transfer"

Cons: No program loaded, and my builder did not give me a disc, as in all other purchases, there has been an activation, or some type f program that lets me use my product

Other Thoughts: I went back to the store, and they gave me a nero program , said I needed that, I have no idea of why they did not activate it, it does play but cannot record, need the disc or something to get it to work, like with other products, you can go to the site and it will give you the patch or updates to make there equipment run properly

1 out of 5 eggsPlextor...NOT !

Pros: looks nice, cool blue light...that's about it though.

Cons: Had to return this one right away. Installed easily but as I was burning my first dvd-r I thought I was hearing strange noises off in the distance, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it was. The sound I heard was very similar to someone rubbing a wet finger on the rim of a delicate wine glass, the sound was coming from the dvd burner. Whining and whining.

The tray about flew out when the dvd-r completed and was so flimsy it looked as if it wouldn't last a week.

I definitely expected more out of this drive and fought demons in my head about whether to buy a Sony or this model. Should have went with my first instinct.

Other Thoughts: Get a Sony.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: Excellent drive and has worked flawlessly so I have installed it on my newly built system. Retail version has included software if your looking for it. If you dont need the software get the OEM....

Cons: None other than the fact that I do not like the Roxio software it came with. I have always been using Nero and liked this drive and thought I'd give Roxio a try. Well unfortunatly I don't like it.... very limited on the options im used to and NERO is much better.

Other Thoughts: I am buying another burner with the Nero software and gonna add it to my system. Needed another drive anyway....

5 out of 5 eggsPlextor PX-850 SATA DVD burner

Pros: Installs and runs out of the box without any problems.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This is a quick review after installation. I have not attempted any burns yet, but so far, this neat little device installs and runs great. SATA is a dream for system builders... so simple! BIOS recognized drive, and installation of OS went easy. After installing WinXP, installed Plextor utilities. Also provided is a free install of short version of CD Creator. Good enough for my needs.

2 out of 5 eggsPlextor PX-850SA Needs Improvement

Pros: Handsome, glossy black face plate.
Blue LED indicator.
Fits my case, since it is standard 5.75" wide drive size (I don't know why others claim to have problems with fitting this drive into their case--it's the standard size).

Comes with supplied 4-pin molex to SATA power adaptor.

Supplied SATA cable; scews.

Nice software bundle, however, the Roxio CD Creator CE Edition is very standard with minimal options.

Cons: Plextor Utilities updates on-line stated all utilities and firmware is up to date--says no updates available, when actually there is. I thought getting updates would help the functionality of this drive, but there is none according to Plextor.

Feezes at every instance of eject/close requests and responds to eject/close requests after about 1 minute of pausing and thinking about what to do next.

Initially reads all disks at a minimum of 1.5 minutes. Very slow drive!

I tried two of these I pruchased from the electronics retail store---both have the same attributes of slow detection, slow reading abilities, freezing, no response after pushing eject button until after waiting 1.5 minutes. Need I say more. I used the supplied SATA cable, and even a different SATA cable I know is in good working condition, and still had the same very slow responses, so I know it's not a SATA cable malfuntion.
When it soes read and play, the drive is VERY loud--the loudest DVD drive I ever heard!

Other Thoughts: After two in a row of these Plextor units that seem to be malfunctioning, it has set a bad impression on me about Plextor products. This is my first experience with Plextor products and I spent extra money for a supposedly good product. I am very surprised at the low quality of these because I have always heard Plextor was top quality. Maybe in the future I will try Plextor again, but not until I know the quality is much improved. Maybe the batch I purchased these two units from (manufactured in May 2009, made in China) is not a good batch??

5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy

Pros: Fast & Quiet. No problems with burns or reads so far. Included software good. Looks great in my new Antec p183 case. Did I mention it was FAST?

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Chose this over other less expensive brands mostly due to reputation. A little pricey but I'm a "quality" kind of guy and you definitely get what you pay for.

3 out of 5 eggsGood burner...but...

Pros: The software came with it was quite substantial. Mine came with a 2nd disk with PlexUtilities in it. It is quite useful if you are into this kind of thing. Even though the Creator 10 CE may be a water down version of the retail box one, it comes with a lot more than I expect.

It burns full CD, DVD's with no problem. Notice I did not use the word copy, but use 2 words "burns full". Please read the Cons section to understand the careful selection of my words!

Cons: Reading full dvd disks using Nero often pauses and freezes. When it happens, I can not click anywhere to get a response except quitting Nero.

Once, the reject button failed with a disk in the drive, but there is no hole on the front panel to stick a pin to push the gear inside so that I could manually pull the tray out---real bad! Lucky for me after 3 shutdowns of the system, the button finally worked!

Other Thoughts: Please read my previous review titled "Good burner". I still maintain it is a good burner, but it may not be a good reader! I carefully chose the word, "may" is perhaps I am using an old copy of water-down Nero, one came with my old LG burner. The reading calibration that the Nero uses on this burner may be a little off. It took 2-3 times to read a DVD disk completely and successfully! Once I installed the Creator 10 software, using it to read a disk becomes much much better. Installation took a long time---rebooting, re-configuring and on and on and on! Given the fact that it lacks of a hole on the panel to help manually pull the tray out, I have to reduce one egg!

4 out of 5 eggsGood burner

Pros: Solid writer; fast; pay attention to the smallest details---a clear sticky cover the door; shinny piano black panel; casing material is made of smooth, high quality steel; small footprint---short depth; blue LED light looks very sharp with the piano black color; not a single scratch on the casing at all!

Cons: Pricey; not the quietest drive I ever owe; full tray door width may cause problem in mounting; no power adapter for Molex type of power plug; no extra beige or white front panel.

At $50.00 price range, I think the manufacturer should be able to throw in the power adapter and an extra front panel in different color!

Other Thoughts: I always admire the quality of Plextor burners since I came across one(cd burner) back 20 years ago at work! The 2nd one was a dvd burner that I installed in a client's machine because he wanted the best! I could not imagine in those 2 instances that I could afford one(paid < $30.00 with MIR)! The 1st one I saw was thousands of dollars; 2nd, hundred or so!

Has anyone wondered why drive manufacturers keep pushing the speed(standard now I think is 22x), yet we can not find any disks that can be cut at that speed? I suppose it is all marketing. Oh yes, I almost forgot there is something call over-burning---cutting a 16x disk at 22x speed!

I did not install the Roxio software because I am so accustomed to Nero; my old copy of Nero seems to work.

I bought this to replace a Lite-on drive that has lost the CD function for at least 3 years. I have been using an old external cd rom drive for music, installation and so on.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Comes with Creator 10 (I hate Nero, protective little program) and cables

- Easy install

- Nice looking extra touch to a case (fresh build, you want to look good)

Cons: - Little wide (you'll need to remove the front-panel of your case to install or remove, no biggie)

- If you have a disc in the drive, makes a little noise when while the system first starts

- Pricey, but quality and you KNOW you are getting the software (OEM is hit or miss)

Other Thoughts: I've bought enough Optical drives to know you get what you pay for. I needed a retail package to get the burner software and saw Plextor. Yes, it is more expensive, but you are paying for the quality (the Asus Retail was avail, I would've got that one, too). I've played DVDs, GTA IV, and loaded Drivers so far with it, winner every time.
