4 out of 5 eggsStill works Great...

Pros: Fast! It Works! Black! Looks Good! No Coasters! Very Quiet!

Cons: None for this model other than the price is high.

Other Thoughts: I had pretty much given up on Plextor burners due to my previous 2 builds having Plextor failures in less than a year. But I wanted a Blu-Ray burner and I liked this one best (although it was pricey). I decided reluctantly to try Plextor once more. I did install a Liteon as a 2nd burner just in case. But this Plextror has been great for me. Sorry, I haven't used the Lightscribe feature; cannot report on that.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic drive

Pros: Does what it is supposed to. Haven't written anything to a BD disc, haven't had the need. It writes to DVDs very quick, reads BD flawlessly

Cons: A bit pricey compared to other BD writers.

Other Thoughts: Great drive, nice to see Plextor back in the quality Optical drive game that they used to dominate a few years back.

4 out of 5 eggsI like but...

Pros: Always reliable (but only after disabling the update monitoring software)
User Interface
Installing software from disk

Cons: Update Monitoring software

Other Thoughts: Included update monitoring software had to be disabled in order for it to work everytime reliably. Plextor Tech had no clue. I troubleshot the issue on my own. Newegg did a good job of packaging and delivering this product. Thank you Plextor for the hardware. Please develop and provide more reliable software! Thank you Newegg!

1 out of 5 eggsNever buying Plextor again

Pros: When I first got the drive it worked well.

Cons: Over time the drive increasingly had difficulty playing bluray movies. I would experience picture break up and audio scratches. For the longest time I assumed these were authoring errors with discs, Powerdvd, or dirt on the discs. I always kept the firmware up to date. But, recently, the problems became so bad that I dedicated an entire day troubleshooting the problem. As it turned out the problem was that Plextor does not keep their firmware updated as often as other manufacturers. This meant recent releases suffered major playback issues to the point where some recent films were unplayable. All the films worked fine on my PS3. I initially replaced my Plextor drive with this same model, but the problems persisted. I contacted Plextor technical support via online chat, the support staffer blamed everything but their firmware and when I asked when it would be updated the staffer promptly disconnected. I replaced this drive with an LG BH14NS40 that works and plays everything. I will never buy Plextor again.

Other Thoughts: I think that it's shameful that Plextor can't manage to keep their firmware up to pace with new movie releases. Movie play back is a basic function of this drive. I found the rudeness of their tech support to be the last draw.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy this Drive!!!!!!

Pros: Extremely reliable makes a perfect burn every time regardless of what kind or type of media! Plex-es have always been known for their "Grit" and this 1 is no different and will most certainly NOT LET YOU DOWN!!! Amazing drive that's why I bought 7 of them!

Cons: None. At one time they were pretty pricy but they changed that.

Other Thoughts: If you want an amazing reliable burner that will never let you down or ever burn a single coaster regardless of the format or media type, then this is the drive you want by far!!! By the way to help make this review more credible, I don't buy dirt cheap blanks of either non or lame name brands, I stick with like either: 3M, Memorex, TDK, Verbatim, Imation ect.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best disk writer so far

Pros: The included plexutilities is usefull in bumping up the power of the laser during disk burns. Eliminates a lot of playback skipping problems from my Sony and RCA, DVD and Blu-ray players.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Plextor quality as usual

Pros: Awesome burner. Typical Plextor quality.

Cons: Horrible software package! Only reason for 1 star deduction is the horrible software Plextor is famous for packing with their drives. In the early days it was a horrible version of CD Creator. Now it's even worse! Had to scrape up my own suite of products.

Other Thoughts: Note to Plextor: You already produce the most expensive optical drives, spend a few pennies more and include a decent software suite!
