5 out of 5 eggsnot bad

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do. Bought as a manufacturer refurb from another store. 15 bucks! Not sure why everyone says it doesnt get enough poer from the USB ports. Have it plugged into the USB ports of a notebook that is notorious for a weak battery, and its working without a hitch.

Cons: None so far.

3 out of 5 eggsIssue I haven't seen raised before

Pros: Pros: cheap price, appears small and portable

Cons: Cons: The y-cable is actually a little weird, and while not proprietary might be a little hard to replace.

Other Thoughts: I bought this, and while having not received it yet if it's exactly as it is in the pictures there might be a problem. The y-cable supplied for extra USB power isn't the slightly more standard 2 full size A to mini-B - it's 2 full size A to full size B (like a printer). The back of the unit seems to have a full-size B plug.

I could not find a cable like this for sale at Newegg, for example. The other cable configuration I mentioned is available.

2 out of 5 eggsFlaky

Pros: slim and small

Cons: Flaky, even with both of the y cables plugged in this dvd/cdrw is flaky. After repeated attempts trying to get different media to be recognized reliably I gave up and threw this piece of garbage against the wall. Internally it is a no name brand- ds-8a2s model, with a pretty generic usb/serial interface. Maybe I got a dud- but I need my equipment to be reliable ALL the time not just when it feels like it.

Other Thoughts: this has a mini sata interface internally- and needs too much power to reliably run off of usb with the full size usb interface. Rated at 5vdc 1.5A

5 out of 5 eggsLoving It

Pros: Had this for 2 months or so....
It does what its supposed to do.
Its small so perfect for those who have small desks or are trying to save space.
Now this is the only dvd drive i have. i removed the internal dvd drive from my computer case, i think its better this way :)

FOR THOSE WHO ARE SAYING THAT IT DOESNT READ YOUR CD's...make sure you connect both usb cables to your computer! if it still doesnt work, then your computer doesnt have enough power, get a 5 volt adapter!

Cons: none so far.
get a 5 volt adapter if your computer doesnt have enough power for the dvd drive!

Other Thoughts: great :)

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Not that I know of

Cons: It doesn't work with my Acer Aspire laptop. The laptop regnized the DVD burner but did not read any CD/DVD, and can not write any info on it. I returned it to Newegg for refund but Newegg for whatever the reason send me the replacement which I didn't ask for. I refused the delivery and waited for more than a month to get my credit back.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if Newegg could tell buyer that the Burner will not work with Acer Aspire Laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks good, no complaints

Pros: Works well. Comes with a "Y" usb cable for power. Has a port to plug in an adapter (not included). No complaints when used with multiple PCs on clients sites.

Cons: Slow. But all USB external drives are. Slow as sin.

It doesn't make me toast.

Probably a little pricey.
