5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Ink is cheaper than Epson or HP printers I have owned. Separate color tanks are great, but I suppose nearly all printers use them nowadays.

Cons: Paper trays seem a little flimsy, but they have lasted 3 years so they must be okay.

Other Thoughts: After two years, mild but noticeable horizontal banding in print lines with "Fast" quality selected; no problem when "Standard" and "High" quality is selected. I tried multiple cleaning passes and levels, no improvement. I have not tried photo printing lately but don't expect any banding to show, considering the normal print quality improvement with higher quality settings.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than the money spent

Pros: Cost, easy use, extremely easy setup, love the bottom load tray(grandkids can't rip off paper to draw). Printed some pics on paper and they still looked real good. And of course NEWEGG rules the shipping lanes.

Cons: Not yet, need to run it through the grind next printing project.

Other Thoughts: THe only reason a 4 was marked is because I haven't had time to do much with this unit yet. But I believe in the Canon name brand, My i850 stiil works great, just not compatible with my 64bit system.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to tape shows what packing stuff needs removed...a caveman could do it, although I'm a mechanic so mechanical thingys come easy to me.
Nice, shiny black and silver breadbox size when not printing...then the lower cassette, top tray, and paper output tray can be opened as needed, which is nice to keep out dust and debris if the printer is used infrequently.

The USB and power cables are exactly the same from the 7 year old Canon S500 that got I used them instead of fishing the new cables through my maze of cables and power cords...that was easy.

Great color rendition so far. I have not used it enough to judge whether ink usage is excessive. It's speed is pretty quick...probably quicker if you pick a lesser image quality...I almost always want excellent pics so don't really care how long it takes to get them.

I saved a few bucks over the ip4600 cause auto duplex printing was not needed.

Cons: Shiny black unit will show dust and fingerprints quickly, if that means anything to doesn't to me...mechanics always have black dirt under our fingernails.

Text does not print at the claimed 26 ppm.

Other Thoughts: Newegg rocks, as usual! It only got 4 instead of 5 eggs cause I don't yet know how thirsty ink usage will be...time will tell.

Ordered Tuesday afternoon when the old S500 kept blinking that its printhead needed replacing...(for the second time in 1 year) UPS delivered Wednesday morning...with free shipping! This new printer with 5 full ink tanks cost less than replacing the old S500 printhead alone.

I got 4 emails detailing my order, charge card, and shipping doesn't get better than that.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap price
5 ink cartridges
Works good

Cons: USB cable not included

Other Thoughts: I needed a replacement for my old Pixma iP3000, which has worked well for me over the years, but was starting to have problems. The Pixma iP3600 seemed to fit the bill for what I needed, and the price can't be beat - especially when you get all 5 ink cartridges included. I prefer separate ink cartridges so if one color runs out you only need to buy that color. Also in my experience the quality seems to be better when separate ink cartridges are used instead of the "all colors in one" type.

I use the printer mainly to print color glossy DVD labels and 4x6 photos. It works great for both things. The photos look professional quality. No complaints except they didn't include a USB cable, but I just used the one from the old Pixma. Overall a good printer at a good price.

4 out of 5 eggsInk almost as much as printer

Pros: 4 separate ink cartridges and decent quantity of ink.

Cons: 5 or 6 cartridges would be better

Other Thoughts: Ink cost is almost as much as the printer costs. But you are getting 4 different color cartridges for the price. If you bought a HP printer, it would cost you probably 4 times as much for 4 cartridges. I am a proud owner of a Canon separate cartridge printer.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible Value

Pros: Produces amazing results when used with proper color management technique. In particular, you must use the correct paper/color profile and print settings to get accurate output. I'd recommend Canon "Photo Paper Plus Glossy II" and corresponding profile (installed with the print driver) to get started.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggsNot completely satisfied

Pros: Relatively quiet for the size of printer, ink appears to last a decent amount of time, isn't overly weighty or big, relatively fast 4"x6" photo printing, looks sleek?

Cons: Poor 8 1/2"x11" paper tray, photo printing colors always come out with a yellowish tint, makes a lot of random movements/noise when not in use.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this because it is relatively cheap, and the 4600 model had good reviews on the photo quality. I needed a printer that could do everyday printing as well as photo. I also purchased it because my late and great Photomate Deluxe printer ink is becoming incresingly difficult to find. I have run through the printer alignments as well as the photo adjustments via the Canon program, Windows printing, and Photoshop CS3 printing. The photos still come out with the yellowish tint. I can adjust the colors via photoshop to try and get them to come out right when I print, but why should I have to do additional adjustments just for priting? I would recommend another printer if photo printing is your thing.
