Pros: I use this with Mac OS X 10.6 and I think the printing and the scanning work great.
Cons: None?
Yeah the cartridges are expensive, but this is Newegg! There's an annual Black Friday cartridge sale!!
Other Thoughts: Being a cheapo, I left the tape on the color cartridge and have been using only the b/w one for the 15 or so months I've had the printer. I got it in November and by the next November, Newegg had the wonderful 40% off cartridge sale! And a couple weeks later, I replace my original cartridge :)

Rating: 2/5Nice with Win/Mac; NOT with Linux
Pros: Canon provides good printer/scanner hardware and good drivers -- IFF you're looking for Windows or OS X support.
Cons: Canon refuses to support OSS, does not provide Linux drivers and does not make life easy for those that would create such drivers for Linux.
Other Thoughts: If you're looking for an AIO unit for Windows or OS X, then this is a fine unit.
If you use Linux, you will be better off searching for something from a manufacturer that is more Linux friendly.

Pros: Attractive aesthetics. Low price. Ink cartridges illuminate when seated properly and blink when low.
Cons: Like a lot of machines that promise to do a lot of things, this one doesn't do anything particularly well for very long.
During the time that I owned it, I regularly felt as if I needed to shake a chicken foot over it or spill some goat blood to get this stupid thing to work.
The ink cartridges are too expensive and often stop working before they're empty.
Other Thoughts: Spend a little more money.
