3 out of 5 eggsOK Printer, But It's Not an iP3000.

Pros: Economical printer for printing on DVD/CD discs.
Nice print quality, both on paper and on discs.
Fast prints, once it gets started.
Generic ink cartridges are widely available online, which helps with costs. Also, there are devices available online which claim to reset the chips on these cartridges allowing one to use Ink Refill systems.
Looks good, if you keep the fingerprints wiped off.
Seems to be reasonably ink efficient, if set up properly. A lot of reviews here on Newegg and other sites complain about this printer being an Ink Hog. Under the "Maintenance" tab there is a "Custom Settings" button. Under that button there is a setting for "Ink Drying Time". Working under the theory that drying time relates to the amount of ink used, I set the drying time to the minimum allowed. My print quality hasn't suffered and I'm not experiencing the Ink Hog problem. In the past 1.5 months I've printed numerous DVD case inserts, DVD disc's and other doc's and still have >50% ink left.

Cons: Not nearly as user friendly or as intuitive as the Pixma iP300. On my previous iP3000, the paper feed path was easily controlled by buttons on the front of the printer or by opening the disc Tray door. Not so here. Every change requires opening the "My Printer" application to change the feed paths. The process is complicated and time consuming, but it works.
The PGI-225 and CLI-226 cartridges used by this printer appear to hold less ink than the BCI-6 and BCI-3 cartridges I'm used to.
This thing is noisy. I'm using the quiet operation mode, which helps, but it's still noisier than my old iP3000.
Slow to get first print. Every time I print with this printer, after pressing "PRINT" the first time, this thing goes through a warm-up process that takes forever. Sort of like a laser printer coming out of hibernate. Mildly frustrating.
While the glossy black finish on this printer looks good, it's a finger print magnet. I'd prefer a matte finish.

Other Thoughts: This printer is sort of like Canon handed an iP3000 to a group of technicians and told them to make it as user unfriendly and as complicated as possible, lower the ink cartridge volume and make it as noisy as possible. When they were finished, Canon put the end result on the market as the iP4920. I sure do miss my iP3000. However, I'm learning to make the best of this printer, and while I'm not enthusiastic about it, it does what I need it to do and at a more than reasonable cost.
If I had never owned an iP3000, I'd probably be giving this printer a 5 Egg rating, but, unfortunately, I am all too aware of just how much better things could be.

3 out of 5 eggsThe Pixma Pixie likes to play with my sanity.

Pros: Great quality prints when it prints right. Individual cartridges for each ink color make replacements cheaper. Double-sided printing works well and I love the option of using a cassette tray to avoid the hassle of loading every time I have to print, and to keep paper protected from dust.

Cons: Sporadic problems with it not pulling up paper from the cassette tray, and it doesn't always play nice when plugged into my Asus router (will periodically print half of the first page, the other half on the next page, then move on as normal). Also seems to go through ink faster than my prior Pixma iP4300 printer, likely due to more frequent head cleaning.

Other Thoughts: This is my first disappointment in the Canon Pixma series of printers so far. I hope this is my last.

1 out of 5 eggsDON'T BUY THIS PRINTER!

Pros: Low cost

Cons: Ink hog, ink prices high, long time before the first page prints (~3 minutes), random printer errors, takes a long time and lots of ink to do a Print Head Alignment

Other Thoughts: This model of Canon printer is an ink hog, gives random errors, takes 3 or more minutes to prepare to print the first page, and uses an enormous amount of time & ink to do a Print Head Alignment. I am pro Canon - I have owned 2 previous Canon printers, 2 Canon scanners, and several Canon cameras. If you're looking for an inkjet printer, aim higher in the Canon product line and pay attention to the specs to determine how long the page print preparation time is before the first page begins to print. If it doesn't say, then either call the company and find out or go to a store and observe this first hand. This is more important than how many pages it can print per minute. Also, pay attention to the cost of ink cartridges. Cheap (in price) printers will get their money from you through ink purchases. I can already tell that this iP4920 won't last me as long as my iP4500 did (4 years, and the cost was the same). The iP4500 failed because my cats bounced off it once too many times.

4 out of 5 eggsSlow warm up but fast printing

Pros: The Cannon PIXMA iP4920 printer I recently purchased from NewEgg works well. I am very pleased with the operation and quality of this printer but the initial warm up takes awhile (1 or 2 minutes). However, once it starts printing it is extremely fast and detailed.

Cons: I have only printed 3 DVDs and a handful of receipts and documents but the magenta and cyan cartridges are more than half empty already. I hope this printer is not going to be an ink hog!

Other Thoughts: Great paper handling options and two sided printing also it prints ink jet printable DVDs really well if you only do one now and again.

4 out of 5 eggsI Like It

Pros: Easy setup and easy to change ink. The inks have an led that let you know the status.

This is the first inkjet printer I have owned that I like the software that came with it.

Cons: not wireless - bottom paper tray a little small

Other Thoughts: You can't go wrong for the price.

2 out of 5 eggsCanon Pixma ip4900

Pros: It's fast, easy to use, and normally good quality print. Does a nice job on envelopes.

Cons: The ink tanks too small, and the printer uses a lot of ink. What I hate most is when I have a nice publication that I am printing, if the ink gets low while I am printing it, I get a horrible picture. This has already ruined several booklets I have done on Publisher. The tanks are never at the same level, so it seems I am constantly changing one or the other, and I can't rely on this printer for a good quality picture because of that. It's not a nice surprise when the publication is finished and I see that.

Other Thoughts: I loved my previous Pixma and thought this one would be similar. I used to print a lot of booklets with it and never had the problem with the pictures not coming out as long as I changed the ink tanks when it was time. This new one tells me that they are low in plenty of time, but doesn't quit printing till I have a mess. I'd never have bought it if I had known

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Printer

Pros: This is a great inkjet printer for photos. I've been using various matte and gloss paper and have had great results. Colors are deep and saturated. I don't use it for any office work (ie word documents, .pdfs, .etc), as I have a laser jet for that. As a photo printer, I could not be happier.

Cons: High ink cost (as with every ink jet printer)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Printer for the price

Pros: Easy set-up out of the box. I like having the paper tray and the second feeder in the rear. Simple design, very nice. I like individual ink cartridges. Seems like good quality print to me.

Cons: Color had to be adjusted right away, it had a decided Magenta shift in the photo print. No other cons so far.

Other Thoughts: Very quick delivery (normal for Newegg though). Printed a 4 x 6 borderless full color photo print in about 30 secs or so. Maybe later I will do more print quality tests.
