1 out of 5 eggsAlmost considered a scam

Pros: Relatively cheap.

Cons: Very loud. The ink cartridges don't last very long. If any cartridge is out, it won't print. I just ordered 2 black cartridges, and after I installed a fresh one, it reported that the cyan cartridge was out and wouldn't print. So, I try to default the printing to black only and it still wont print. After trying a few more things, I look on their website and it says that all cartridges need to be installed with ink for it to function.

Considering that every time I have put a new cartridge in the heads needed to be cleaned, I need to buy 3 more cartridges (~$60) to print normal text. This is the first Epson product I've purchased and it will definitely be the last.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this printer, and avoid anything from Epson.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks after...

Pros: When it's working, it does everything that it should. It has excellent print quality.

Cons: When I first hooked it up, I was getting a USB Device Not Recognized error on my computer. I found out that the problem was that my USB controller was not providing enough power to the printer, because of the media slots. I was forced to by a Y-Adapter from NewEgg that was used to draw power from two USB ports. However, now that I have that, everything works fine.

2 out of 5 eggscx4200

Pros: cx4200 worked fine for a couple hundred small print jobs

Cons: Can't comment on the CX7400, specifically, but since the CX4200 is no longer sold, this looked like the closest to it. The CX4200 died just short of 2 years (1 year warranty, so gonna have to trash it). This was disappointing since we didn't use it heavily at all. Now, no printer sold be Epson will accept the ink cartridges we just purchased (over $30) for the one that died. Hey, Epson, how about at least some consistency with ink cartridge options?

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: Cheap cost

Cons: Ink habitually clogs and requires print head cleaning very often. Cleaning the print heads consumes alot of ink, 4 or 5 cleaning and you have consumed all your ink. In fact, this model registers how much ink you have left based on how many pages you have printed. So you could print alot of pages with only a few lines, and it will tell you your ink is empty even though it is still half full. The ink is also very expensive.

Other Thoughts: I would stay away from this brand all together. They have given me many troubles from the past two printers I have owned. Problem is, there really isnt any good printer brand. Most of them skimp on the quality of the printer, so the printer malfunctions often and they gouge the price of the ink. Do not support this behavior by buying their overpriced ink! Buy third party ink, it is just as good.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the rebate price

Pros: Rebate made the item extremely inexpensive. It's an all-in-one print/scan/copy, so it takes up less space. Not terribly bulky. Scan quality is very good for average user (not for professionals who may be scanning in negatives be them 35m, medium or large format, the like). Very easy to use and ink is rather inexpensive depending on where you look. Quite easy to use.

Cons: Should have provided a USB cable in-box...silly. As inexpensive as the ink may be, the colour ink goes like crazy and must be replaced so very often if used. Still have horizontal lines for most prints -- only rectified by highest quality prints which use an amazing amount of ink. If mostly making black/white, then disregard.

Other Thoughts: I use it as an at-home emergency printer. I'm usually at work, so making colour and black/white prints is not that often done at home. This printer is made for those who are average user and mostly make black/white. If rebate available, then a brilliant purchase. I would suggest if rebate available.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Great at everything it does. You don't need a bank loan to buy ink either! Hopefully it will last well.

Cons: The black ink that came with it did not work and it will NOT print if any ink tank is out or low.

3 out of 5 eggsaverage AIO printer

Pros: It has a good price and lots of functions. I like the way it looks and the shiny black color. It is very easy to use in all respects.

Cons: My biggest complaint is the rate at which it uses ink. I don't print that much and I have to buy a new cartridge about every week. The draft setting is so light you can barely read it so it's pointless. Also, the lower quality settings leave streaks in the prints. I calibrated and cleaned it, but the quality was still the same. I think the specs regarding speed, toner usage, and sheets printed are misleading. I don't understand why they didn't just include a USB cable with it. I'm glad I had an extra one lying around.

Other Thoughts: The black ink is more expensive than the other colors. I thought about returning it but decided it wasn't worth the effort.

4 out of 5 eggsFunctioning well

Pros: Prints nice pictures. Cheaper to buy this printer than to buy new ink cartridges for my old one. The ink in this one is not too terribly expensive. Software is pretty easy to use.

Cons: Blank paper sort of hangs and 'leans' over the holder. Time it takes to start the print job is a little long. Doesn't come with a USB cable.

Other Thoughts: For the price, if you don't like it, you can go buy a different one next year.
