1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: It works for the first year or so.

Cons: After the first year, the print quality shows lines and one time the colors were off. Replacing ink cartridges are expensive. After a while it doesn't even want to accept official Epson cartridges let alone 3rd party ones. It did break for me really easily.

Other Thoughts: I did get this free with a camera from another store. I guess they needed to get rid of this garbage to make room for better printers. From my experiences, Canons are better. I now own a refurbished Canon PIXMA MX320. I don't regret it.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Inkjet Printer I've ever had.

Pros: Got the R280 in a bundle purchase so with rebate it was free, but it someone stole it, I'd pay for a new one! It sat for about 6 months then I ran out of ink on my old R200 printer and set this one up, and I love it!Prints great, prints to CD and DVD disks, and prints look great, fairly quick, it's just a great printer and a must if you burn a lot of your own CD or DVD disks. Print CD software is pretty good too, it's super easy to use!

Cons: Cartridges are a little more expensive than older epson models (Like my old R200) yet still cheaper than most other brands of inkjets.

Other Thoughts: I got a CISS system with remote resivors that hold a lot of ink and makes it very inexpensive to print, and it works great.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Complaints

Pros: Excellent print quality
Ability to print CD and DVD media

Cons: No complaint on ink price or consumption i have a CISS ink system ,for the cost of a set of Epson Carts you can have the equivalent of about 10 cartridge sets.

Other Thoughts: you can get these w/o ink on e*** and the ciss for about what they retail for.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Photo printing

Pros: Awesome borderless prints on epson papers, Faster than my old r220. Best looking printer I've ever seen.

Cons: Epson is trying to force people into using their overpriced inks. This printer will not work with anything but epson inks and not always even with them thanks to their tinkering! This amounts to price fixing and monoply tactics. Are you listening FTC

Other Thoughts: I have been an epson fan for years and this is the best photo printer I have seen bar none but if they insist on continuing these unfair marketing tatics I may just have to go with another MFG in the future. I can't afford to pay $75 for ink for a $99 dollar printer. Do they expect us to believe everything in the box except the ink only costs about 20 bucks?

5 out of 5 eggsBest prints I've seen

Pros: The Print quality on this is outstanding, I've never seen better prints, even from a pro 4800, BUT you have to use epson paper to get the quality. Best inks epson has ever made. As for ink consumption, unlike other reviewers here, mine gets double the prints my R300 or RX500 got off an ink set, that is, about 30 full 8.5x11 photos printed at top quality.

Cons: There are cartridge compatibility issues. Cartridges made in mexico only work with themselves, and ones from china only work with themselves. If you have the misfortune of getting china inks, then they won't register as being installed if you have mexico inks in the printer. I got 1 from china and 5 from mexico when I bought the printer.

Other Thoughts: Great printer overall, horrible quirks with the ink. If epson actually gets some quality control on the chips for the inks so china inks work with mexico ones, I wouldn't have a single problem with it.

2 out of 5 eggsEpson R280

Pros: Nice looking. Prints reasonable fast. Good quality prints.

Cons: INHALES INK!!! I thought HP printers were bad. This R280 is horrible. I was looking for a leak! Printed 2 8x10 color pictures and maybe 20 pages of print. 3 of the 6 cartridges were empty! At $80 for a set of 6 replacements---forget it. This printer is getting tossed! I hate to , but it's back to Hp for me.

Other Thoughts: Too bad, this is a nice looking printer that is fast and prints quite well. But I can't tolerate ink usage like this!

4 out of 5 eggsVista Users Beware. Not Really.

Pros: With very little tweaking, Vista users can print directly to CD/DVD using Acoustica labeling software. Acoustica supports Epson R280 CD/DVD printing out-of-the-box.

Cons: I would have preferred using the PrintCD software that came with my printer, rather than spend the extra $22 on additional software.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if Newegg had option to update my earlier review.

2 out of 5 eggsVista Users Beware!

Pros: CD printing feature works well under Windows XP.

Cons: CD printing feature does not work under Windows Vista. Regardless of what Epson sales material says, the software supplied for printing CD's is not compatible with Vista. This is the error displayed in Vista: "The EPSON printer driver dealing with CD printing is not installed." The most recent software updates from Epson will not fix the problem. Talked with Epson technical support. They said software engineers are trying to fix the problem. I think it's inappropriate for Epson to advertise Vista compatibility when it's really not.

Other Thoughts: Even if the CD printing software worked with Vista, it looks very outdated and probably written for an 8-year-old. The CD printing functionality is proprietary, so only the CD printing software supplied by Epson will work, regardless of the operating system.

3 out of 5 eggsInk Drinker

Pros: I bought to to get the Ink mostly. I have another one of these that I bought last year, which I use only for DVD printing. I have a HP C6180 for Photo and DOC printing.

Cons: This thing loves to drink the ink.. On sale at moment which is cheaper than the

Other Thoughts: For regular printing jobs and Photos, get a HP... Nice PICs on my C6180.. HP looks like professional job with Advance Paper settings..

1 out of 5 eggsDon't do it

Pros: Cheap, no useless bells/whistles

Cons: I bought this printer to replace an HP8250, which went through ink like it had a leak and showed drives on my system for cards, etc. that I don't need. My first problem with the Epson was that it wouldn't work with Ubuntu 7.1 without a lot of hassle and then had no provisions for test prints, etc. I moved it to an XP system and it worked OK for about a week. Then it reported two empty cartridges, even though I've only printed about 20 sheets. It won't go past the page on it's applet that suggests you order Epson ink now, so that I could try to clean the heads. Epson support is of course useless. I'm done with inkjet printers; going to color laser and the local print shop when I want picture quality.

Other Thoughts: The game appears to be to sell whatever junk want, then sell overpriced ink cartridges. We're back where we were in 1986.
