make sure you keep plenty of ink!
- Pros: Great color output, wide variety of media sizes accepted.
- Cons: expensive ink replacement, printer will not print if cartridges are not replaced, draft mode is not helpful for determining settings.
- Other Thoughts: At $13\cartridge owners will need to spend $100+ for for backup ink. Don't order too soon however as they have a limited shelf life. Find an online supplier and verify they have what you want and can ship pronto because local stores will NOT have this printer's ink in stock. Make sure you push something out of the printer every 5-7 days or the ink will just be wasted. I find this printer is great but maybe something slightly less grandiose would have served equally well. The printer is actually a marketing tool for the ink-the printer will not run if one of the cartridges is not loaded in fully forcing you to replace it. The testing devices on the printer do not work either if one of the cartridges is not working which is where I'm at . It's toast.
Epson R1900 - Excellent Color Photos
- Pros: Outstanding color photos - color fidelity, depth, resolution & brilliance. print either clossy ot matte without swapping ink cartridges.
- Cons: A bit slow printing text fron npn photo applications. Small ink cartridges increase ink cost.
- Other Thoughts: I acquired an Epson R1900 to replace my Epson 1270 which had given 4+ years faithful service. Using the excellent “Quick Start Guide”, installation was quick and easy.
R1900 test prints were made using Epson papers and compared to prints from the Epson 1270 (dye ink) and an Epson R2400, a more expensive pigment ink printer.
Compared to the Stylus 1270, all R1900 prints had better color depth, clarity, fidelity, and brilliance than the 1270 dye ink prints. Very likely the added “Gloss Optimizer” cartridge of the R1900 contributed to the advantage. Also a decided plus is the added print life of pigment ink.
Compared to the R2400, the R1900 color prints were at least equal to the R2400. The free downloadable premium profiles were used on both printers and I highly recommend downloading and using the premium profiles. In a few instances the R1900 premium profile gave marginally better results, specifically for skin tones. However, the differences were VERY subtle and

Already love the printer!
- Pros: Does wonderful, glossy prints! The skin tones are outstanding, as well as print quality. Does 4 x 6 pretty quickly! I do like knowing these prints won't fade in a few years and love the wide-format, as I do digital scrapbooking and print 12 x 12 pages.
- Cons: Not sure of any. It's a huge printer, but I knew that going in. Not sure how quickly I will go through ink, but that's not a huge concern.
- Other Thoughts: Am replacing my Epson 1400 printer with this one only because I got a good price through New Egg on this printer, plus $150 rebate. My 1400 did a great job, but I knew this printer would take my photo printing to a new level and I am pretty excited about that!
- Pros: Excellent printer. I bought this because my neighbor has an R1800 (Predecessor to R1900), and the results are absolutely beautiful. I am looking forward to enjoying this printer. It greatly compliments my souped up newly built computer (of-course I built it) with a 24" SAMSUNG Monitor. If you can afford this printer, go for it, you will not regret it.
- Cons: I ran into a problem when I sent my very 1st test page. It printed only the heading and stopped responding. Paper had to be manually ejected. This went on for couple of days. Even I was frustrated but with the help of a friend it got fixed. As it turned out that my networked printer (Epson R300) driver was interfering with the R1900. Once the driver for R300 was deleted, the R1900 started working just like it was supposed to.
- Other Thoughts: I did send an email to Epson about the problem but I have not heard from them yet.
Outstanding
- Pros: Absolutely dazzling prints.
- Cons: Inkwells are small, need replaced often
