4 out of 5 eggsEpson Printer NX515

Pros: Great all in one printer. Network capability is great for the low price.

Cons: I had trouble getting it to connect through the wireless interface. After several tries I finally just hard wired it.

1 out of 5 eggsGood printer, major ink issue

Pros: Easy to set-up via wireless, good picture quality.

Cons: The big con is if any of the color tanks run dry, you cannot print anything, even in black and white. I have yet to find a nine pin reset tool for the color cartridges, and rumor is the chip burns out after running low so it can't be reset. Sure you can buy new cartridges but when you're printing important documents on a Sunday night and your cyan color goes out, thats it; the printer won't work until you install another cyan cartridge to print your black and white document. I'm going back to HP printers, at least they don't hold your print jobs hostage until you buy a color tank.

Other Thoughts: At least it was cheap, but when it fails when you need it, it's kind of worthless.

2 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Prints great. Very fast.

Cons: Nozzles clog up. You can go through a tremendous amount of ink trying to keep them clean. Often after replacing an ink cartridge, suddenly several cleanings are necessary. If a nozzle clogs up badly enough, you will have to replace the printer. Epson is trying so hard to prevent you from using other ink cartridges, sometimes the printer will not recognize an Epson cartridge. (Then you just spent $25 in vain!)

Other Thoughts: There must be more reliable printers with a cheaper ink system out there.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for a general printer

Pros: Prints nice color and black and white on standard (non photo quality) paper. I have yet to print color photos at this point. i will soon try though. Access to the printer on wireless is not to bad for the most part. Linux support in Ubuntu 10.4 is getting better still not perfect. I got the printer running without a hitch, the scanning on wireless not so much yet. All though I would not recommend using a printer as a nas box; fork the dollars and buy a nas box. Data is too important, don't chance it your a fool if you do. Scanning has gone ok in widows.

Cons: In response to other posts. All printer ink exceeds printer price. That's how money is made. Now on to the cons. Black and white printing on epson 5 star paper, not happening. I have made 5 prints and all have a magenta tone to them. It will not allow you to choose black and white in windows when high quality paper is selected (both XP and 7). What the printer is doing is doing is printing CMYK black witch is not a true black. Tech support is like windows tech support, it comes from In dia and other parts out east so expect pour service in this area. If you want someone to read a script to you, call me instead I'm local.

Other Thoughts: I want to give it a 5 but the support has been not that great. Take that away It would get a 4. If you subtract the b/w issue and it would get a 5. Price point for me was about $80, affordable. I get the High quality hardware that I have always expected from Epson. I will continue to buy Epons because they really do print better images than other printers. Remember this is an all-in-one not the Epson Styles Pro 3800. which I have printed on and if you know your stuff; O.M.G. These prints are excellent, with very little issues. Ok after thinking about I gave it a 4. Keep in mind that I rated so as a general printer not a photo printer. as a photo printer I would say 3 eggs.

1 out of 5 eggsYou Get What You Pay For!

Pros: Low price of printer
Good quality print ... while it works

Cons: Makes infernal racket when not operating in "quiet" mode
Ceased working properly after only 4 months
Epson would not honor warranty
Epson customer service is totally unsatisfactory
Epson ink carrtidges are outrageously priced ... one set of 4 cartridges could exceed original purchase price of printer.

Other Thoughts: After about 2 months, I had replaced all the original OEM ink cartridges with Epson-compatible ones. There was no difference in print quality or printer operations using the non-Epson ink ... until a few days ago. When the black cartridge started producing spotty print, I thought .. ah, time for head cleaning! Yeah, right. After running 8 consecutive nozzle checks and exhausting 2 full magenta and yellow ink cartridges in the process, I still did not get any print pattern from the black, magenta, and yellow cartridges, all of which I replaced again. I then started e-mailing Epson tech support, and got nothing but the proverbial run-around. I called the number provided for warranty service. After better than 30 minutes (including wait time and holds) on a toll line, I was told that nothing could be done under the warranty because I was using non-Epson ink. That "verdict" was subsequently
amended to state that I first had to buy a full set of 4 Epson ink cartridges (~$53.70)! STAY AWAY

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost 5 stars

Pros: Nice...but
I bought one and would have bought several more if the Linux support was better.
I really wanted to change our church offices over to this printer but could not because we could not access the SD card under Linux, which would have been very nice.
We could have used it as a low-power NAS.
Epson does not seem to want to support this.

Cons: Poor Linux suppport

Other Thoughts: The members of our church often follow what the tech staff supports for the office, partly because they know that the stuff works and is a good value.
It's a dirty shame that Epson seems to have written off Linux support.
At one time they did a very good job.
We do not allow windoze in any form on the church network because of the constant virus problems.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Printer, Good Company

Pros: Printer is great. Print quality is very good. Easy to set up (except network, see cons). Easy to use. Tech support is great.

Cons: Had to set it up on a static IP, dynamic would work until I restarted my computer the next day after my router assigned a new IP address. The monitor program they bundle it with didn't recognize the printer even after the static IP so I had to turn the monitoring program off as it seemed to interferer with the printing. Not hard to do though, just slightly annoying. That's why the 4 stars and not 5.

Other Thoughts: Had to call tech support because it was printing red lines at top and bottom of pages while trying to print pictures. I had done all the nozzle cleaning ect. but it continued to do so. Called tech support and they were very helpful and told me to re seat the cartridges and it works flawless now. Would be a 5 star if not for the wireless network set up issues. Not a big deal if you know what you're doing but non-tech people would have a problem with it. Tech support was great for the printing issue though. Call them, they're nice people.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat quality and features, high costs

Pros: The NX515 makes great quality prints in both color and black & white. It also has built-in wifi which makes scanning to a laptop or sharing the printer across a work group incredibly easy. The installation and setup was pretty simple, and the cost of the printer itself can be found for like $50 - $100.

Cons: That low cost for the printer gets shadowed pretty quickly by your credit card bill at the end of the month after buying a whole new set of cartridges (at least 50 bucks.) Even the high yield ones don't last that many pages. The printer does an automatic cleaning every 15 minutes or so, which wastes ink even faster. And if you run out of 1 of the 4 colors, you can not print anything!

A printer like this is fine when it is used exclusively for printing family photos or final papers. Try and pick up a Brother laser printer for like 60 bucks or so. It costs about 120x less per page to print on the Brother and use that one for drafts and quick prints, and then use the Epson on special occasions.

Other Thoughts: I'm sick of companies like Epson and Gillette which so obviously make there money off the dispensable parts of the products. If they really cared about there customers, they should stop gouging them, and make high quality long lasting products!

1 out of 5 eggsNever buy EPSON again

Pros: It's a really good-looking printer.

Cons: 1.Unbelievable noisy when printing.
2.Run out of Ink quickly and ink are quite expensive.
3. Extremely picky on ink, even on some EPSON's own ink
(I changed a black Ink cartridge which support NX300/400 series, the nozzle jammed!!!Then I switch to NX515 ink cartridge.NOT MATTER HOW many times I run nozzle cleaning,it just can't print anything black!!!!
4.Can't print or even run nozzle cleaning EVEN IF only one color ink ran out.

Other Thoughts: I have no idea why how EPSON became a famous brand,by this garbage.
