5 out of 5 eggsHP has been making great lasers for years

Pros: I have had my printer now for well over a year I think closer to two. I bought it because my wife was putting me in the poor house buying ink for the inkjet. Setting it up on the network was a breeze and all the six computers can print as needed. The toner cartridges are no bargain but they last a far sight longer than ink.

Cons: Which brings me to my only gripe about this thing. HP puts a set life on the toner cartridges 2000 sheets for color and 2500 for black. The machine will shut stop running if they print more than that. The fact is how much toner is used is based on how much of it is used for each page. After a heated call to HP Tech they told me that you can bypass that action from the menu. They told me you can damage the printer by letting it run out of toner. I have been in IT for well over 20 years and used lasers from high end mainframe lasers to small personal lasers. I have never hard of a printer being damaged by running out of toner. We have been getting 3000 – 4000 sheets out of a cartridge depending on use.

Other Thoughts: Other than HPs method to boos toner sales. The printer is a great printer, it has worked well for us.

2 out of 5 eggsPathetically slow

Pros: Good build quality and decent output qualith

Cons: Extremely slow on PDF and WordPerfect documents. This printer is rated by HP at 10 ppm color and 12 ppm monochrome and advertised as a workgroup printer. I bought one, much to my regret. It is far too slow to use in a modern office. Timed speed on an average PDF document without anything fancy was about 1 to 1.5 pages per minute with a big delay between printing pages. My old inkjet is much faster. Terming this machine to be a workgroup class printer is seriously false.

1 out of 5 eggsDONT BUY

Pros: IF it prints, the quality is decent.

Cons: (I support 3 of these printers-all have the same problems)As a test, yesterday, it took me 6 attempts to print, via the network, for the printer to respond. The very next print failed. When connected via USB the printer takes 2-3 min before it fails. I have tried many driver and even upgrading the firmware-nothing fixes this junk printer.

Other Thoughts: Buy something else. I think HP has had the market too long. Buy from a competitor.

5 out of 5 eggsVERY GOOD

Pros: Have had this for about 6 months and print about 100-150 sheets per day.
Jamming minimal even with duplexing.
Does exactly what we needed it to do. It prints colors good (not a kodak moment; but then we don't need it to).

Cons: Can't use cheap thin paper; but then most lasers with duplexing have the same problem with paper curling.

Other Thoughts: If you want a printer to print in color that is reasonable fast and your not going to do photos, this is the printer. Especially for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat inkjet replacement for small office

Pros: Great image quality, not photo perfect but they don't claim that. Mechanically flawless out of the box.
Full feature list for the price.
Toner page ratings are realistic, printing mostly photos we are getting k=1500p, c=1000p , m=1000p, & y=1300p.
Very quiet.
Newegg shipped from NJ to central NY in 2 days! instant gratification.

Cons: No job monitor/cancel thru web interface. Would hang on some large jobs, but ram should be upgraded to start with and pcl drivers should not be used.
Default driver installation takes forever and adds useless card reader to your drive list.

Other Thoughts: Use the postscript drivers!
Don't use the autorun installation, find the drivers dir on the cdrom, and do a manual installation on a tcp/ip port. Wish it took more common ram like plain pc100.
Don't expect perfect results from copier paper, gotta use at least economy color laser 24# paper. Still cheaper than coated.

2 out of 5 eggsGood looking Print quality, when it works

Pros: Really nice print quality for a color laser printer. Low maintenance as drum and corona appear to be built into the cartridges. Easy setup

Cons: Unreliable. On my 2nd one and it has same problem as first. Lockups, freezes, reboot reboot reboot. Unit stops responding after a couple of prints , especially when trying to print via network. Will not even print demo or report pages from LCD menu. Reboot and it prints ok, but you have to babysit it. Won't do for a business network.

Other Thoughts: HP support is of little help on this problem. Just have you refresh default settings, reflash memory, and then swap unit with same buggy model. Appears to be a wide spread issue from what I have found in HP Forums, and with no know resolution. This one will be going back for refund.
