Pros: The Manual input tray and the Photoshop plug-in
Cons: Fussy what photo paper it uses. The Ink is pricey. no Window Vista Drivers.
Other Thoughts: Setting up this printer was straight forward but it had lengthy self calibration procedures. After the self calibration and print head conditioning I opened a photo in Photoshop to do a test print using the Photoshop plug-in. This was very useful all the settings were on one dialog box. The ink status window popped up before I sent my first image to the printer indicating that all my ink levels were about 50% or less. For my first print I used some HP Premium Plus photo paper that I had on hand and the print was blotchy with noticeable pin marks from the paper handling mechanism. So I went to the HP Website to see what was suggested to use for that printer. The only paper listed for the HP Photosmart Pro B9180 was the Advanced photo paper. Oddly enough it’s the only HP paper supported by the printer software. So I purchased the Advanced photo paper and that made all the difference in the world. The prints were fantastic. So I Continued printing a few more test prints, Three 8x10, five

Pros: 200 year archival quality when used with oem ink/paper. Self calibration insures color consistency for years to come. Teutonic build appears to be long lasting. You must use proper paper profiles with this printer to get consistant pro results. Start with HP advanced line. The HP premium is a swellable medium for dye ink printers Don't Use It.
I keep hp advanced glossy in the tray for proofs. I like too that the paper is stored in the machine so it doesn't get dust attached.
Almost all fine art paper companies are putting profiles on their websites to support this printer, which is recognized as a professional tool which has hit a sweet spot in the market.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: This is a fine printer, but you must keep color control through out your system and use profiles to get excellent results. Pros know this, armatures and enthusiasts may not, but you can learn, it's worth it.

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: When working correctly this printer delivers amazing results, which gets it 2 stars.
Cons: Severe banding on prints, multiple issues with paper feeding and poor to non existant customer support
Other Thoughts: I would have continued to work with this printer despite it's faults if HP honored any of it's existing customer warranty claims. Printer went defective and customer care would not even troubleshoot without credit card information. At this price point customer care should at least recognize the prosumer/business customer and offer basic troubleshooting issues.

Terrible deal

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Great quality, relatively fast. Networking. Pictures come out dry, waterproof and smudge resistant.
Cons: A feed sensor broke after 170 pages. It is out of warranty so they will charge me 260$ to replace with a refurbished one. It locks up frequently when turned off and would not connect to the router. Needs unplugging. Uses a lot of ink for maintenance and setup. If left on, makes random noises when servicing the printheads every day.
Other Thoughts: At 4$ a page for me, it is quite expensive. After checking online, other people had same problem

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Extremely high-quality prints on a variety of media. Very easy initial setup and software installation (Vista 32 bit). Feeds very easily using straight-thru feed (especially heavy-weight media). Addition of new paper profiles is a snap. Ink usage is very good. Built like a tank.
Cons: None found so far
Other Thoughts: I'm a semi-pro photographer and spent much time comparing printers and checking ratings and review. I am extremely happy with my choice of the B9180. It does everything I wish and does it extremely well. I highly recommend this machine.
