1 out of 5 eggsJunk...

Pros: The high price, so it has the appearance of a top of the line model.

Cons: Do not buy this item because of the touch screen or the scanning feature.

Also this does not have a fax capability.

Other Thoughts: Would have give a zero start if it is available.

3 out of 5 eggsSo far So good

Pros: Instructions were clearly detailed step by step and setup / installation went very well. This printer is networked with desktop pc and laptop pc.
Finally a decent printer/scanner WITHOUT a useless fax included.

Cons: Constant pop-ups from HP, sure hope I can disable them soon before I toss the printer in the river!!!!!!
Unit is heavy, won't be moving it much (please Lord make the pop-ups go away)...guess that might indicate that it is solid build.

Other Thoughts: Price is ok for this unit however high for today's market considering this is primary home use. Since I have only just "met" the C8180, I shall reserve my final comments for a while, keep my fingers crossed and the old printer just in case.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this to scan film negative

Pros: Touch Screen operation, simple to follow menu.

Cons: Either HP didn't QA the software that operates the Touch Screen, or the scanner on the C8180 is of inferior quality. Scanning color negative started to have problem after about 100 frames, and it started to scan them in B&W. It'll start scan color negative again only after you shutdown the unit, unplugged / plugged the power supply, and start the unit again. You'll need to repeat this process about every 12 frames of color negatives you scan.

Other Thoughts: The C8180 has a nice design. The following must be done to make this a truly great All-In-One.
1) Fix the software that controls the Touch Screen operation.
2) Add fax to this unit.

1 out of 5 eggsHp junk

Pros: None to mention.except bought from new egg and they were great this just beyond their control.

Cons: Ok let's get started. The first one shipped came in with a broken glass- (thanks ups). New egg sends me another no problem. 2nd printer the scanner arm will not make a full stroke had to get a replacement from hp that took about 4 hours on the phone and two translators. 3rd printer comes in and it will not work wirelessly the wifi chip will not initiate. 6 hours later with tech support they decide to try again with a replacement.4 th printer comes in and hooks up and prints wow maybe this might work out (wishful thinking). The printer will not show the ink cartridge levels on the on board display or on the compute, and half the time it will not print or scan when using it wirelessly. I have to reset the network settings and resync it with my computer after every power off. I am tech savy and have tried everything from static ip settings to firmware updates and driver tweaking. This thing is just at best a piece of junk. I will never buy another hp printer again. Ps now out of warranty

Other Thoughts: Do not buy HP they are horrible and sell nothing but junk. After the last printer they sent me they tell me my warranty is out inspite of all the problems I had. If you do not believe me just google hp c8180 problems and take a week off of work so you can read the first page of hits.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast delivery, very fast. UPS Man very nice. NewEgg gets Five Eggs, HP One Egg. Nice machine, other than not working as it is said to. Nice printer and scanner, but LightScribe is a joke.

Cons: LightScribe will not work. I called HP, lost connection on other side of world. 18 hours later they called me back in middle of night. Still will not work. Very disappointed in HP.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: Nice all in one. Print quality is excellent. Lacks direct fax functionality, but that is not very important. Hooks in well to my custom XP and Vista PCs, my Ipod Touch, and my Mac Pro. Haven't tried in Linux yet, but know drivers are available.

Cons: HP Software for Windows... UGH.... I ended up removing several of the extra software due to its constant need for attention. Personally I just want to know when my inks are at/below 20%, I don't need the dashboard view and pop ups...

Other Thoughts: Nice for scanning slides. HP Hardware 5 eggs, but their software for Windows gets 3 eggs since it could be significantly improved and stream lined.

1 out of 5 eggsShort lifespan, zero support

Pros: Very awesome features, decent speed.

Cons: Broke after my first ink refill. HP Support said my only choice is to buy a new one. This effectively means that an ink refill costs $400 (buy a new printer that comes with ink, as printer won't last past the ink refill). Not worth the money.

Other Thoughts: I will be looking into third party repair services.

5 out of 5 eggsExceptional, despite a few flaws

Pros: The print quality is just amazing. My mouth literally dropped open when I saw the print quality of the first photo I had printed on a sheet of the included photo paper. It's just as great as professional film developing, all hands down.

It prints very fast.

It has multiple ways to connect it to the computer, bluetooth, wireless b and g (ad-hoc and infrastructure modes), and USB, which is fantastic. Either way you connect it, you still get the same level of functionality.

The touch screen is very easy to use as well.

Not that this matters, but I think it looks very attractive on a desk.

Cons: The software installation took a ridiculously long time, around 20 minutes. I don't recommend installing the driver on a system with 512MB of RAM or less. The driver seriously hogs system resources.

It takes the printer about 2 minutes to turn on, and about 45 seconds to a minute to shut down. It's best to leave it on all the time if you need to copy/print/scan something fast.

The printer became unresponsive when I needed to copy something. The touch screen and all buttons would not respond, not even the power button. I had to unplug it and plug it back in.

Other Thoughts: Overall, HP did an outstanding job.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks very well

Pros: Very fast printing, wireless connectivity to all my computers in mixed n/g/b environment using WPA-PSK. After installing the basic driver package from HP, setup detected and installed the printer without entering any wireless information. Has been up working for over 2 months now without crashing.

Works great with digital media. Plugged my CF from digital camera in and the wizard on the screen displays the images and asks you what formats you want to print in, quality, etc. I took pictures of the flooding in Iowa and the 8.5x11 photo on photo paper and it was very high quality, almost life-like.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: None

4 out of 5 eggsGreat scanner/printer/copier

Pros: I really like the ease of scanning. the photo quality is pretty good and fast.

Cons: the only thing that I have a problem with the machine is the dvd burner. I tried to burn a DVD to it from my computer and the software would lock up. as soon as I took the disc out, the software would work again. I'm still trying to trouble shoot the problem.

Other Thoughts: The installation software could have been a little bit faster, took about 20 minutes on my Q6600.
Other than that, great product.
