4 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget Printer

Pros: This is an excellent printer for the money. I'm not sure what many reviewers are talking about in terms of it's cpp because I am currently averaging just under 1cent per page.

Cons: Not one of their industrial strength models (will be more expensive to repair, but since we paid 139$ for it, I don't much care).

2 out of 5 eggsDominance

Pros: Bought a few of these - two have failed.
For pros, it rarely jams and duplexing is quick.

Cons: Bad part is that two have died and one just "error lights" constantly (as you have read on other reviews). I have to open and close the front door several times a day for no reason other than to clear the error light and print. I've replaced the toner three times over its life and the drum once and it still behaves the same way.

Other Thoughts: Naturally, I'm replacing this printer when printers in general go on sale again. Can't keep dealing with this forever.

Manufacturer Response:

Please try to reset the PC count. Please visit the link below and follow the instructions.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is a great printer. The duplex works without a problem as does the manual feed. I have the printer set up to duplex automatically and have not had any problems with this printer. All in all this is a great printer if you do a lot of mutli page printing.

Cons: None at this time.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if there was an after market toner.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for believing in Lexmark products. We're glad that you're satisfied with our product. It is always been our goal to give customers a great product and best service.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst $ for value

Pros: As IT Director I just retired 15 of these devices. Due to their unreasonably high price, you can donate these for a good return so long as your conscience doesn't get the best of you.

Cons: at 4-5 cents a page, this is the most cost in-efficient printer I've ever seen. You can't find anyone who sells a generic.

Get yourself a Brother printer that uses generic TN650 toner. .5 cents a page, aka 10 times the value.

Other Thoughts: This one gets me riled up as I was able to save 35% of our office toner spend alone by replacing. Would be acceptable if the cost of the printer was minuscule, but it is also incredibly overpriced.

Please note the Brother 5340D should you need an identical quality printer.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback as these are valuable inputs to improving our product value propositions for our current and future products. Though you might find compatibles to be cheap and cost efficient substitutes, they pose a risk of damaging the printer. I will affect the quality of the prints and overtime may be more costly with the maintenance and repairs, total cost of ownership would be high.

The E260 has genuine cartridge toner options with higher rated pages output per cartridge, allowing you to save. Joining our Lexmark Cartridge program will further help you save cost with substantial discounts with every toner cartridge returned.

1 out of 5 eggsError Light, constantly!

Pros: Newegg ships fast!

Cons: This replaced a Lexmark e250dn. The new e260dn printer would constantly get a toner/halt error light sequence. I called Lexmark support, put me into VoiceMail. Left a message, they never called back. I RMA'd with Newegg before the 30 days.

Other Thoughts: I'm beginning to see a bad pattern with Lexmark. Maybe it's not a good idea to change from HP.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Toner Count

Pros: Fast. Prints within seconds, even when idle.

Cons: 1) OEM toner cartridges are expensive
2) No after-market toner cartridge options
3) Toner count on OEM cartridges rarely matches expected count. My 3.5K rated cartridges get an average of 2.8K.

Other Thoughts: I've purchased three of these printers over the last couple of years to replace some old Dell 1600N printers at my small business. For a number of years I've kept a spreadsheet to document the page count I get out of each cartridge, so I already had good figures on my old Dell printers.

I routinely got 4-5K page counts per cartridge from inexpensive ($40) after-market cartridges for my Dell printers. Now I'm paying $80+ for cartridges that are only giving me an average of 2.8K (2,810 to be exact). In other words, my toner costs for the Lexmarks are more than double the toner costs for my Dell printers.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: It's fast and inexpensive.

Cons: The manual feed is terrible and the printer kept thinking it had a paper jam or else would show an error indicating that there was a problem with the toner. I couldn't go a day without having to remove and reseat the toner cartridge and even purchased a replacement cartridge with the same results.

It didn't help that I kept getting a combination of error lights on the front that wasn't explained in the manual. Awful little printer. I only haven't replaced it because I do very little printing.

Manufacturer Response:

Please make sure that the paper setting on the printer is in sync with the application you’re using (e.g Microsoft word).

Also, to get the errors in your printer you can push the green button/continue button and print a menu settings page. Under menu settings look for warnings, this will provide you information on the error.

If you have further concerns please contact me via email at , I’d be very willing to personally assist you.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast for first page

Cons: Bad toner life. Manual feed is problematic. It will grab multiple pages unless you feed them one at a time.

Cassette feed doesn't like thick paper. It will feed 3-4 pages at a time.

Combined with the lousy manual feed, only buy this if you use standard 20# paper and nothing else.

Other Thoughts: Better than most HP lasers. They ALWAYS mis-feed.

Manual feed on this needs some attention from Lexmark. Worst manual feed I have yet encountered.

4 out of 5 eggs$$$Toner Otherwise 5 Stars

Pros: Overall, this is an excellent printer for home and good printer for a smaller office. Print speed is good. Excellent small fonts. Many print options - booklet, watermark, multisheet and multipage, graphic tuning options, memory slot

Cons: My biggest gripe is the cost of the replacement cartridges (about $80 to 120). Other Lexmark cartridges are $40-50. There is no high yield cartridge available as is for other models (E360) though the E360 can use the 260 cartridge. Aftermarket refill kits are not yet available. The small power switch is in the back. If I must have a "toner attention" light, I would like a way to reset or "snooze" it.

Cartridge has a chip that counts. At some number the 'toner attention' light comes on and stays on. I am told the light stays on even if the toner cartridge is refilled. As yet there is no third party support to reset the chip. I continued to print maybe 150 pages after the light came on. When the pages started to streak and solid black areas were mottled, I removed the cartridge and gently rocked it in all directions. I was able to print maybe 75 pages and I had to rock again. I printed about another 50. Rocking did not help any more. Print was still legible but fading fast

Other Thoughts: My usage is casual - term papers and smaller than small office printing.
I use the duplex and the multiple-page-on-a-sheet print features a lot. I have also used the multiple-sheets-to-a-page feature with success.
I have not had many jam problems from the bin but the paper quality is key. I've used Staples, HP and IBM papers with little problem. I never use 18#. I found that multipurpose works well for me. I keep some 24# on hand for special occasions but I like the feel of 22#. I use 20# also. All papers are fanned before using. Also the bin does take 14" paper.
I tried the manual feed because so many reviewers complained about it. I had few problems with jamming. The complaint I have is that I had a problem timing the insertion of the next page. When I missed it, it would pick up from the bin or it would appear to draw the item in too deeply and jam. Maybe with more use (and removal of the bin!!!), I would be better. I have not tried laser labels at all.

5 out of 5 eggssolid printer

Pros: Fast duplex printer. I bought the n version because i wanted to hook it up to my university network for my suite but school network wouldn't allow me to. that said, the printer works great. i haven't had a problem with it. i just ordered another thing of toner

Cons: I thought the toner ran out kind of fast. It also didn't do so well printing pictures.

Other Thoughts: Great printer. I love the duplex printing. Everyone can manually double side things but it's a pain in the but. It's easier just to have the printer do it for you.
