5 out of 5 eggsBUY IT!

Pros: Is a workhorse, doesn't suck up toner, works well in a dusty warehouse. Price is good

Cons: has had a couple issues where it thought it had a jam but not really a con, probably due to the dusty environment

Other Thoughts: Story time... We had 4 brand-new Dell 3330dn printers ($500ea) that came in our new warehouse management package. They all sat in storage for 12 months while we prepared for the transition, (which caused the warranty to expire) Than after go-live and literally only 3 months of use, 1 of them, whether from being overworked or not, got too hot and melted some plastic cover on one of the rollers which messed the whole thing up, So I call Dell and get shafted because the warranty is up and they wanted $250 bucks for the new fuser assembly! Found this oki for $250 that same day and bought it, 3 months later I ask the warehouse guys how they like it.... they say it prints faster, uses wayyy less toner, & never bugs out not to mention the toner is around $60 cheaper. This may be sounding like a dell bash so I wont bring up all the other problems Ive been having with the remaining 3. It just makes me mad to think Dell wants $500 for a printer that is supposed to be the same caliber as this one if not better and wont even back it up. I got 2 oki's now (c330dn) and these 2 printers are the only ones out of my mix of Dell, HP, Canon, & Ricohs that have never once given me any issue since I first set them up. Needless to say I'm a dedicated OKI customer from here on out, Keep up the good work and affordable prices OKI!

5 out of 5 eggsGood Linux printer

Pros: This is my 3rd Okidata LED printer in 18 years. The 2nd one is 12 years old and still works fine, I just wanted duplexing. The B431dn has higher resolution, 40ppm and both PCL5 and Postscript 3 capability.

I dualboot Win7/Kubuntu. The B431 was instantly recognized by Kubuntu 12.10 via USB. Duplexing, PCL and PS are fully supported using the large selection of available Linux drivers. If you use Kubuntu 12.10, make sure you turn off the "reject all printer jobs" box which is enabled by default. Installing Win7 drivers was more problematic than Kubuntu, because hotplugging the USB cable wouldn't trigger the Add New Hardware wizard. That may be a problem with the USB port in my computer. I intalled the Win7 driver manually instead.

The B431 really is fast, both to the first page and per page. I initially printed a 300 page duplexed document, and there were no jammed pages or problems of any kind. It sure is nice to have reliable duplexing!

I haven't tried networking yet.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond Printer

Pros: Works really well. Prints fast. Text is crisp. Warm-up time is pretty quick.

Cons: Doesn't come with any cables other than a power cable, which is unfortunate. I am not crazy about the color, but I knew it was black before I bought it so that really isn't a con. Maybe I am too hung up on the color, but my computer and other stuff is beige and I would have preferred a beige printer as well.

I set it up on a network and I had a small issue with setting a static IP Address for the printer. It was nothing I couldn't handle, but it took me a little while to figure out how to do it. I have two of these printers and as I recall, when I connected the last printer to the network I had the same problem. I just forgot how I solved it so I had to figure it out all over again.

Other Thoughts: I have another one of these printers which I bought several months ago. It works so well that when they were on sale here a little while ago with discounts, I ended up getting another one. I figured for $199 it was an offer I couldn't refuse, so I bought a second one. It is working great, and the wife and the two daughters love having two printers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little printer

Pros: All OKI printers seem to sip toner, I actually get more pages than they list. The overall toner cost is about 40% less than the HP it replaces.

Print cost is awesome.
Print quality is spectacular.

Cons: The driver had to be installed manually on Windows 7x64 for some reason

Other Thoughts: We are switching our entire office over to OKI printers because the toner cost is so much lower than HP or Brother. In the end it will only take 3 months for 5 printers to pay for themselves.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: We were using a HP Laserjet 4 Plus but it was getting pretty old and was starting to have problems so we went with a new printer rather than repairing the old one.

Fairly easy to set up on a home network. Prints very fast and the text is sharp and crisp.

Cons: I am not crazy about the color but that's not really a con, just a personal preference.

Other Thoughts: This really is a nice printer, I got it when it was on sale for $249 so it was an even better deal. But even at the current price it is still a good buy. I would recommend this printer for a home or business use. We use it for home use, (two daughters in college) and the wife does some computer work for local organizations.

4 out of 5 eggsEnvelope Question

Pros: I've been using a couple of HP 1200's in my office for years. One has started printing a vertical line down each page and I think it will be cheaper in the long run to replace it.

I picked up a Brother 2270 which prints fine but to print an envelope requires you to open a flap on the back of the machine and flip two switches. Otherwise an envelope comes through wrinkled. This machine is highly rated by Cnet and I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how it does with envelopes.

Cons: I had to rate this to post my question.

4 out of 5 eggsSo Far So Good

Pros: Sharp text. Fast print speed. Quiet.

Cons: Driver CD that came with printer and drivers available from Okidata web site provide a little confusion. On-line driver installation instructions are vague. If your not familiar with networking printers it could be annoying.

Other Thoughts: I've gone through multiple color laser and inkjet printers over the past few years. Most have been very disappointing. Vendors don't seem to care about longevity. Some only last months. I'm hoping this Okidata will be better. You pays yer money and takes yer chances. Only time will tell.

5 out of 5 eggsTired of ink prices?

Pros: We got tired of paying $40 to $80 for ink every 3 to 6 months. In the long run our inkjet printer was costing us far more than the original purchase price.

We don't print photos, and rarely need to print color. So we did some research for what we needed.

This printer was our choice because of the following:
- extremely low cost per page
- LED technology is an upgrade from traditional laser in that it has no moving parts, and is less likely to break, as well as cheaper to fix if it does. OKIDATA invented(?) and is the only LED printer manufacturer
- super fast printing, this wasn't part of our purchasing decision but now that we have it, I love how fast it prints. Our inkjet would take at least 30 seconds per page, even for B&W. This printer takes about 5 seconds to receive the document, and about 2 seconds to print once it receives it.
- has it's own ethernet adapter so it works great as a network printer without having to attach it to a PC and share.

Cons: The price for this printer is fairly high when you compare it with the $40 printers. But what really matters (to us) was the price per page, and using that metric, this printer stomps on the $40 inkjets. - The longer you own this printer, the more money you'll save.

Other Thoughts: If you're tired of $80 ink cartridges every 100 pages, want quality, but do not need color, this printer is a fantastic choice. I highly recommend it.
