2 out of 5 eggsImpressive (for the price) at first, but unreliable down the line

Pros: "Price." I'm not particularly experienced with printers, but I was happy with the speed and quality at first. I felt so smart for opting for a laser printer over an inkjet. You know, "cost per page" and what not.

Cons: I bought this printer around Autumn of 2007. Now, after two years of fairly light use, the printer no longer works. At first, it was just getting a lot of (false) paper jams. Now when the troubleshooting pop-up comes up, it mentions a "dev. home error" and recommends to power it down for a few seconds and turn it back on. If it still doesn't work, I'm to call a service representative. Very vague; very unhelpful. And I'm very unhappy.

Other Thoughts: Are all printer manufacturers run by vampires or something?

2 out of 5 eggsSamsung Support needs improvement

Pros: Price

Cons: I got it, printed a test and two photos and the power supply died. I called Samsung and they arranged to send the part to a service who came to install it. Wrong part, didn't fit. Samsung decided to replace the printer. They did with a refurbished. I rejected it. No rebate and no printer 2 months later. A $250 rip off so far.

Other Thoughts: I have always highly recommended Samsung products, I have an $800 monitor of theirs, selected their i760 smart phones at work and a color AIO at work but I find this situation intolerable. They're not even answering email anymore and are claiming to not have received my returned printer, sent back on 9/4.

2 out of 5 eggsFrustrating

Pros: Cheap. This is one of the most reasonably priced CLP out there.

Cons: I urge you not to buy this product. There's a reason it's so inexpensive, and the bottome line is that it's a piece of junk. From the second I got this thing I had a bad feeling. The quality of the prints are comparable to my $30 HP laser jet. It's extremely slow to warm up and when I went to insert Laser printer compatible photo paper it would jam every other time. I was ok with this until today when it completely stopped working. I'm going to call newegg and see if I can't return this piece of junk.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it, you'll be disappointed if you do.

2 out of 5 eggsregretful purchase

Pros: grayscale, black & white printing is clean - good enough to print a final report for school

Samsung does provide drivers to use this printer under Linux (Debian Sid specifically)

Cons: The color print quality is very unacceptable - I find it almost criminal that Samsung would even sell this as a color laser printer. Sure, the letters are legible, but there's too much blur throughout the paper. So unfortunately, I have avoided using color printing. I haven't printed enough to say, but I've read that the ink usage is very inefficient for these printers.

Maybe print speed could be better, but this is not a big issue for casual home user.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend you look for a different color laser printer. In my opinion, it's better to spend more money and get the quality you want rather than spend less and not get the quality at all.

4 out of 5 eggsGood deal without doubt

Pros: Color laser printer, good deal with rebate, less expensive toner than some others, good print quality.

Cons: Sometimes unbelievably slow to print first page, toner still costs more than I paid for the printer, small paper tray inconvenient for manual feed.

Other Thoughts: Would have given 5 eggs if not for the occasional 1/2 minute wait to print a page - note that the specs say 14 seconds to first page FROM READY but quite often the printer decides to not become READY for additional 15 seconds or so. Once it gets going it is faster, quieter and produces better quality than my old B&W Dell 1110 at nearly the same price with the color capability being a nice bonus. Color prints are not photo-lab quality but excellent for documents. I knew what to expect in terms of print quality so I'm very satisfied overall. If you get one of those rebate deals for less than a benjamin, I'd say go for it, just don't forget to grab an A-B USB cable - the printer doesn't come with one.

2 out of 5 eggsVery dissapointing

Pros: I worked fine the first month

Cons: Toner hog, very bad yield, unit started to fail after first month of usage.
I would not recommend this to anybody, stay away from it.

Other Thoughts: Please pardon my English, at least I try, and I hope this review help other people not to waste their money.

2 out of 5 eggsFirst one had problems...

Pros: Good value for a color printer (after the rebate). Pretty compact. Replacement toners should be cheap, as they are not 'chipped'.

Cons: First one was defective; light band printed down page. 2 hours on phone with Samsung, and about 100 full-coverage test pages later, playing their support game, yielded what I knew all along... the fuser unit was bad. Replacement on the way.

Other Thoughts: Samsung will send a new fuser unit, but wants me to use old toners... I didn't want to do this because I used a lot diagnosing the problem, and it is messy removing and replacing almost-FULL toner carts (that have been stirred up, and have protective tape removed). Toner cost is negligible compared to the fuser unit; Samsung is being too cheap by not supplying the toner WITH the fuser. So now they will have another RMA return on their shelf... wonder if that costs them more than the toner?

5 out of 5 eggsLow Cost, High Quality

Pros: Low price, small size, relatively quiet, easy setup, decent color & text, availability of lower-priced aftermarket toner.

Cons: Not as fast as more expensive color laser printers. Photo quality is decent, but not equal to high-end inkjet prints on photo paper.

Other Thoughts: With its small size and quiet operation, the CLP 300 is a winner. Setup and driver installation is a snap - less than 10 minutes from opening the box to printing the first page - and, unlike some other brands, Samsung's drivers don't tax your PC with bloated add-ons.

The first night I printed 200 full-color flyers for a client with no problems. The "draft" mode gives a quality equal to standard modes on most inkjets. Photo output is good, but not equal to high-quality inkjet/photo paper prints.

Since this printer uses toner-only (not toner/roller) refills, aftermarket pre-filled cartridges and refill kits are readily available - usually 50% less than Samsung OEM.

5 out of 5 eggsCLP-300

Pros: Great printer for the price class. Very quiet.
The printer is small enough to fit everywhere.

I had an issue with slight banding on color printouts, but after calling Samsung's tech support, they sent me a replacement part in one day(!) and the printouts are now perfect!

Nice vivid color. Rich blacks.
Replacement toner is cheap.
Samsung has great tech support.
Finally the price is fantastic - for the price of a black & white printer you get color!

Cons: Minor: No printed manual, only as PDF on CD.
Minor: No LCD display on printer.
